Game Day Tiges v Port

We were spent in the last.

Also I'm sick of being smashed in contested marks. We get beaten all over the ground.

Biggest disappointment for me was the backline. Comprehensively beaten.
Yep worst effort I can recall from our backline in years. They were all at sea when the ball hit the deck.

Uncharacteristic.

Thought Dimma sounded both tired and pretty pissed off in the presser. Did have a little dig at umps paying Dixon free's but nothing for Jack or Lynch....

Easy to blame the backline they were not great , but the forward line wasn't applying pressure or keeping ball in our 50 and midfield was poor to many passengers.

Will be better 4 day break made to travel on same day and guns to come in Port don't fear me one bit.

Jack was blatantlyh chopped at one point, even the commentators called it. Worst rule in the book for consistency.

Wow - great presser from Hinkly - very generous. Well done by him i say. WOW just *smile* wow - one *smile* reporter actually says that from where they sat Port got the rough end of the umpiring..
Whats did Hinkley say?

I think the disappointing thing tonight for me was the number of fumbles, number of players going up for the ball leaving Port smalls to feast at ground level. Never seen Grimes fumble so much. Vlastuin kept flying and completely missing the ball. Our backline was just well off their game.

Tigga no longer allowed to touch any balls;)

It was a cracking Satdy arvo game of midwinter footy, Haz. Their big men were too big. Dixon and Ladhams were both enormous and Georgiades is a young Dermie.

Im not overly upset about the result today.

As others have said, we are still missing a number of key players and when the fixture came out this was the game I'd pencilled in as us struggling in. 4 day break and Port were always going to view it as their 'grand final' so the fact that we were in it for so long is a good result.

It was finals like intensity which was also a great learning curve for our younger guys who will grow from it.

3 out of 4 from this fixture block was always going to be an excellent result. The troops will then return and similar to last year be able to launch an assault on the back half of the year from a decent position.

A bye?
Port played the day before we did - they had a one day longer break.
With a rolling draw like they now have (many days with only one game on it), it's simply not mathematically possible to make it any more even than that, otherwise you'd be playing the same team every week.
Think about it.

Right now, the team Port played (Bulldogs) are playing the team we played (Lions). The two pairs of teams have crossed over.
So for each game, the breaks the two competing teams are coming off are four and five days. One different. Not possible to be any less.

Given the limitations involved, I think the AFL are probably doing as well as they can.

I'm ranting man extra break day or two but they still sittting comfortably at home.

When are they going to change the rule to a bounce when a teammate blocks on the mark? It's ridiculous to call it back.

Oops, wrong thread.

Game has changed. Shorter quarters & compressed schedule mean contested ball & clearance is even more important. Hardwick now has to address this issue. Not negotiable anymore. Nank will help but time to try different midfielders. Pickett & Stack especially disappointing. Castagna out of form amongst others. Defence was under siege due to clearance differential.

Needs to be addressed but ATM replacements found it hard against a real seasoned big bodied outfit.

Defence. A lot of dropped marks and frees given. But when the midfield is getting murdered leaves the defence vulnerable. We had quite a few down today. Would Astbury made a difference? Who knows. Port played out of their skins against an inexperienced young side that were finally exposed..

Closing Kayo account on Monday, streaming is *smile*. Dropped out 10 times
My streaming Foxtel (which is what KAYO essentially is) is always dropping out, and lags behind to the point where I read what’s happening here before it happens on my tv.

My Stan, Netflix, Telstra, Amazon, Disney etc do not drop out, it’s just Foxtel.

Kenny best get to work on re signing this week after they won the GF !!!

Before it all goes to *smile* later.
