GAME DAY Tiges v Pies

Just watched the presser and dimma said we had 28 forward half turnovers in the first half with many of them when we weren’t under pressure. 8 in the second. I didn’t see the in close work at the ground but grimes was having a mare just trying to kick it in 25m. I thought it was out of character poor and not sure we see it that bad again this year. If we do we are toast - no team can defend missing 25m passes that go to the opposition coming out of defence.
Yes. Like many times already this season many of our problems are self inflicted.
If a team stops giving away forward half turnovers then they are going to score, which is what we did.

Its started all ready. The hate squad is back.
'The score flattered Richmond"
Maybe yes. But bad kicking is bad footy.
They missed properly 5 shots. But flappers, Mansell and Lynch missed basic set shots too.
They out played us YES, but the score wasn't flattering
I always scratch my head with this analysis.

Missing shots on goal is a skill error. So is committing 25 forward half turnovers in a half.

Why are skill errors when kicking for goal any different to skill errors elsewhere?

Something i noticed collingwood do, i reckon theyve borrowed from Rugby.

If they tackle us, they target the ball to try release it.

If they get tackled, they strive to release the ball.

Their mids swarm around the contest, often in formation, waiting for the release.

Its a bit of a melding of Footscray '16, tigers '17 and the wallabies.

The Umps have bought in big time - they give the collingwood bloke on the ground about 5 seconds to release it.

Its a) very effective and b) wont be that hard to combat by other sides, or corrupt geelong AFL *smile*

There will be those that choose the simplistic

'Its just richmond '17'

But its different. We were largely ball forward chaotically at all times.

Collingwood are treating the stoppage a bit like a scrum where they have the feed.

They set up and go!

Yes captain Grimes uncharacteristically set the poor standard with two horrendous turnover kicks straight to the opposition. He was also given the run around by Ash Johnson who came in for Cox.
An aberration from the great man one hopes.

You consistently get outraged over decisions because you don't know the rules.

Spend some time listening and learning instead of abusing and you might start to understand what is happening.
You're still somehow expecting rational n balanced views on the game day thread when we're getting pantsed, TBR? Doesn't happen on a good day, absolutely no chance when the *smile*'s hitting the fan.

At least, Judson Clarke looks a player, just needs some size and another 30 or so games.
Tylar Young, has played 30 games in his life, tough learning the caper at the highest level, another who just needs time.
Cumberland, just needs to play.

No shame getting the runaround from johnson - which he did.

Hes an athletic freak - like a 193 marlion pickett.

Id like to know why he was in the 2nds?

This is an absolute obliteration at the moment.

Although I love the footage of MJ tackling Sidebum by the arm, who drops the ball on the ground then brushes away with his foot! Play on!!!

Of course the sycophantic w@nkers on 7 just praise Sidebum for his ability to dispose of it. No matter it was an illegal disposal with yet another free to us missed.
Drop kick is still legal Riddler, just doesn't get used very often.

Watched the game again today as missed parts yesterday.

Do not agree that the scoreline flattered us. Was a close contest for most of the night except the 2nd qtr.
Pies are THE inform team of the comp and this is as good as they are going to play. Will they sustain it all year and finals? Maybe, Maybe not. They wont improve though. This is their ceiling.

Negatives
Elephant in the room. Nank. Worst game ive seen and no longer has any impact as a ruckman. Should have moved Cotch and Jack on and made a play for Grundy.
Fwd line. Not working at the moment. Needs to be changed up. Jack is done and Tom is not fit.
Cumberland not being picked to start.
Graham. Plodder.
Ralphsmith. Panic king. No right being in this side. Banks please
Riewoldt. Is cooked

Positives
Broad
Martin
Gibcus
Short - for all his negatives he provides a huge amount of run and does have some leg speed and gets the ball moving our way
Hopper. Would of made a HUGE difference to this game with those conditions
The above all play and result looks different.

Baker. Should be captain
Defence. Balta and Young were fantastic
Cumberland
Ross - still not being played to his strengths but he played a good game. Needs to be given a 5-6 game block to establish himself. Plays ahead of Graham for mine

Up to MC and Dimma to start giving us and not the opposition an advantage by starting to make the right calls.

In 2022 our average against score was 81
In 2023 so far it's 62.33
That's a huge change to our game.
Along with a better midfield
and many players getting their fitness up to scratch in season.

The closest thing to Sheds ive seen with his vision and execution by hand.

Is a player on a very steep trajectory
Agree. Some saying he wont make it as an AFL player are deluded. Kid has genuine class and will only improve with game time. Needs to keep playing

Yep. Truck has made a huge difference already.
Also think Young is going to be a brilliant defender for years to come. We have really found one here

This thread is a great read.

Collingwood are a good team and in fly, they have a very good coach.

However, the media loves a darling. Collingwood is their darling atm. A dream narrative. Keeps the masses tuned in to their football shows which validates the fat pay checks given to so many who commentate on the game.

The fireworks were funny. The response of the younger Daicos towards our Maurice simply petulant. Ego ergo error.

Let them enjoy March glory.

Reckon we are not yet done!

Huge.

You can win a GF conceeding 10 goals,

Especially when we sort our forward structure and entries about July,

And start kicking 20

It wasn't a drop kick Maso. He was lying on the ground being tackled and just let the ball go then brushed it away with his leg. Completely illegal disposal yet he was praised for it. Utter rubbish from the sycophants.
