GAME DAY Tiges v Pies

Our down the line bombing to the flank is so predictable.
The pies fed off this.
We looked so much more dangerous when we took the angles and gave the ball to Cumberland etc.
Pies looked rattled when we came inboard

Yeah, the kicking down the line just doesn't work with the way teams defend these days, more run and carry, more going into the corridor, less down the line.

I can understand why there is a lot of talk about Collingwood's contested possession numbers, but it isn't so much the contested possessions, it is more the way they swarm and have so many numbers around the ball that there is always an outlet. Even if they lose possession, the fact they have more players at the contest means they are a better than even chance to get the ball and if they don't, they can put pressure on their opposition immediately.

We used to do this, but not any more. They are playing similar to the way we played 2017 to 2020, but like any well coached team they have developed the style. That's the way it goes, you win a few flags, other teams look at the strategy and develop it to get ahead of you. We got 3 flags in the process so have to be happy with that. Time for Richmond to look at our strategies and work out ways to get better.

They have an ability to get the absolute best from seemingly ordinary players, and have done for a long time. A forward line of Mihocek and McStay looked 10 times more dangerous than a forward line of Lynch and Riewoldt. Frampton played like Rance, their oldies are aging like wine, ours are aging like milk.

Dawes, Leigh Brown, the Clokes, Lokan, the Lonie sisters.... they just keep doing it.
Yeah Mihocek isn’t a star but he’s strong and keeps competing and bringing the ball to ground, where their other players that seem to be everywhere all of the time then take advantage.

Still finding it hard to believe we only lost by 14 points.

Really poor game overall as a spectacle, but thats becoming the norm these days, not overly disappointed in the result strangely enough.

Maybe its because I had to watch it on my 15" computer screen instead of my 65" TV due to the fact my remote is stuffed and I cannot change channels because of it, thus the TV is OFF at the moment.

Gotta love Foxtel, only 5 days until a replacement arrives !!!! Speedy bastards take your money quicker than that though.

Collingwood kept there back 6 back all night.
While we just kick it to them all night.
We over crowded our own foward line and seem to take the wrong option.

Pies the better side on the night but we fought it out really well. Some good signs from young blokes Juddy and Hugo, and of course Cumbo. Ross was alright. Old blokes the worry. Chimpa tried and was probably one of our best but - but... just... slowed... down. Can't apply the pressure he once did and is coming under pressure more than he ever has when he has it. Jack. Hmm. Grimey. Ummm.

Anyhoo, Dusty, Hoops, Shorty, Sonz, Broady to come in. They can play a bit.

It's still March.

We need a mobile CHF who can lead from the flanks to the wing who can jump , it lets us down so many times !

Not a bad result, four of our best 18 out, against the most red hot side.

Could’ve easily folded and lost that by 50+. Young blokes showed plenty.

Need games into Clarke, Cumberland and Sonsie should come in next week.

Are old guys are ageing fast at each end of the ground, some of our core is getting exposed.

Interesting times. 1 win, 1 draw, 1 honourable loss. Learned nothing major but I’m nervous.
Reckon Clarke is a high probability of not making it.

It was an honourable loss sure, but not a close one. Not by a long shot.

Bullied for most of the night, despite the fight we showed.

The rules are a mess. Made worse by making amendments to rules that already weren’t working.

May as well have PluckaDuck out there spinning his chooklotto barrel to decide what’s a free kick and what isn’t.
How was the one when Crisp picked up the ball, shoved his head into Nank's stomach and just stood there like an ostrich holding the ball on the ground until the dumpire called a ball-up?

Yay footy. Game's never been better.

Overall not a bad effort considering we kicked 1 goal and had about 4 shots on goal for the 1st half and we got one clearance from the middle for the entire second half.
- I know we were without Hopper but how can we be that bad out of the middle when Nank got 1st hands on the ball for most of the night.
- Have we paid a fortune for a bloke who can't kick? Taranto's disposal continues to be abominable - hope its just an aberation.
- Baker was huge tonight - clean, brave, decisive!
- Grimes is a step off it (Once upon a time he blanketed De Goey (I know not on him all the time).
- Rioli great but needs a hand - we need another dasher off half back.
- We need to go down the middle some of the time (we go the wing repeatedly and lose more often than not).
- Cumby needs to always play - got us going in the 3rd!
- Ridiculous decision to play Ryan (didn't learn anything from his debut)- I said at start of game he would be lucky to make half time. Flew against Lynch - I wonder how much closer we may have been at half time if we had a runner playing instead of Ryan.
- Maybe Nank isn't the answer in the ruck (I know he is a workhorse and heart and soul of team) but I guarantee a fit Max Gawn would have torn the pies to shreds with all the part time rucks they through at us. Same happened in Elimination Final againt Brisbane - Hodge was commenting on it - Won 16-3 hitouts but lost clearances 10-5!

- Don't think its all doom and gloom - if they are the best, we can bridge the gap!

Let's get real. The margin flattered us. It was a credit to them to tough it out but that was more like a 7-8 goal loss. We were pretty well outplayed for most of the game. They outnumbered us at the fall of the ball all over the ground. When we did get opportunities we butchered them with our horrendous kicking. That is a massive issue for us.

Tarranto and Prestia gave us nothing.
Clarke is light years away
Cotchin Graham Ross and Pickett too slow.
Tarranto battled away , still ended up with near 30 touches , not the ideal conditions for Clarke , agree on the last comment but on a wet night thought their contested style would suit the wet ! Pickett slow ? Not sure about that

We are not bridging anything until we can find a way to kick the footy like an AFL side and hit some *smile* targets.
