Game Day thread - Rnd 18 vs Norf

I know what you're saying, but I'd rather play Parker instead of Aarts or Castagna. Skills aren't the best but at times they're reasonable. Castagna's the more skilled but seems to have disappeared mentally.
I hear you but playing any substandard AFL footballers is not going to win us games. Of the three mentioned, George undoubtedly has the more talent but as you say his fall off seems to be a mental thing but he is not alone in that. It seems that others in the team are lacking confidence for whatever reason. Whilst we had Emma Murray on the books she would weave her magic on the guys minds and the players responded.

As Dimma said, we are Number 1 in the AFL for Inside 50s.

Our forward line composure/game plan/execution is a Mess.

So stop playing players who contribute to that lack of composure in the FL. Do not play Aarts or Castagna.
How about Jack? 2 goals 6!

So many posters on here questioned our recruiting last year.

Blind Freddy could see we needed an inside mid.

The club thought better and went best available.

Could be a win if we are playing the long game, but watching Simpkin and Uniacke from the wooden spooners carve us up tonight makes it look like a mistake
Inside mid...steal...Sonsie.

I would too. When playing in the AFL you want someone to have AFL traits. Parker is bigger, faster and can impact more defensively. At Aarts height, he needs to have something that's elite, either footy smarts, agility, goal kicking. Unfortunately he is a poor mans Sam Lloyd, and Lloyd was an average AFL player at best (and I loved Lloydy).

I have no idea what the coaches see in Aarts to think he has any AFL traits. At his height you need something elite in you (think Baker, Prestia, Lambert etc) but I can't of anything that is elite about Aarts.

Agree posh. He can play anywhere around the ground. I'm sure he has improved his skills since the Aints coz I don't think we'd take him if still useless. Have a look at his non-stop game in the VFL yesterday. Not in our best 22, but in situations like now with injuries, we should've played him especially at the Dump where he's played well.

Dumb footballers. No game awareness.
No leadership...where was captain Grimes to organise that set up? What about Vlastuin?...no leadership attributes. I've seen Tarrant telling guys where to stand but he probably had his hands full minding his man.

Yep, I send my apologies to Robbie Tarrant.

Initially thought he was a poor selection, but he's doing an excellent job.

Grimes, Tarrant, Broad.
Hugo, Balta, Rioli

That's my back 6 for the rest of the season. Set and forget.

Funny how the boys decided to go to a comedy club in North Melbourne today.
Been doing one every year for ages ( covid excepted of course ). They do a fund raiser ( end of season trip )?? n tickets for fans to meet n greet in an informal setting.

I know you've been banging on about the midfield but the midfield isn't why we lost either of the last 2 weeks and thats despite missing 2 of our best mids last week and 1 of them this.

We lost due to composure within the F50 arc.

Yes we need a deeper midfield but its a cop out to try and claim that its the midfield that are costing us games right now.

We dominated field position, and each of the last 2 weeks we controlled the game enough where we should have kicked 100+ points in both weeks. Thats not a week midfield, yes it can be strengthened but the reason why we failed the last 2 weeks is due to composure and efficiency in front of goal. Nothing more, nothing less.
Yeh, our midfield has always produced in finals when needed. But we need everyone fit. I agree, if we make the finals and we have everyone available we will be a difficult proposition. But the chances of that diminish with every week.

These would be the same people who have continued to pick Jake Aarts. Parker’s like Aarts in the respect that he’s a good vfl player, but can’t take the step to produce at a higher level. His disposal is substandard as is his decision making.
