Re: Cricket

Great to see the selectors injecting some youth into the test squad for the daunting tour of Bangladesh.Shame on the selectors.

Were only ever going to change the squad if we failed in South Africa. We dont hand out baggy greens for the sake of it even if it is meaningless tour.

Martyn & Kasper don't deserve their spots.Your theory is flawed,if we don't keep an eye on the future we will stumble very badly in the future.

Re: Cricket

G Smith got his hand whacked at training & won't play in the final test starting tonight.
Kallis to take over as SA captain.

Believe we're keeping the same 12 together from Durban...Would have liked to see Tait,at least, get a game.

Re: Cricket

Dan Cullen

2nd try.

Looks a bit like Shane warne did 15 years ago.

Bowls like Suqlain Mushtaq, also has a "doosra".

Late developer, didn't play in any rep squads as a junior.

Developed in SA Academy by Terry Jenner.

Unspectacular 2005/06 bowling average of 33, but mainly bowled on SACA.

Shall be playing domestic cricket in England, this winter.

Not disagreeing with you mb in they deserve to play, but selectors rarely change winning sides and have viewed Martyn for the Ashes now after dropping Hodge and they wont drop him after he made 50 and Kasper is replacement for McGrath.
We never pick a side just because the opponent is weak, we always pick the best available 12 to play.

I would like to see Tait play as well Marella.

what do you mean 2nd try sorry Phantom.

Cullen got 40+ wickets 04/05 and had an injury this year. We need an off spinner from what I have seen he look ok too Phanto and is only 23

Re: Cricket

Congratulations to Justin Langer ahead of his 100th test. :clap

After successfully fighting his way back into the Aussie side, taking over from Michael Slater, his partnerships with Hayden have been a huge reason for Australia's ongoing success, over a long period of time.
Whilst not the most flashy player, he's as gritty as they come and as his career draws to a close deserves the acolades that will come his way this week.

Re: Cricket

Well done JL, one of my succesful picks who I tipped will play test cricket. Gillespie is another of my fav picks in among players that did not reach that level like Craig Howard, Phil Alley, Tro Corbett, Mark Atkinson.

Re: Cricket

Didn't get to see much of the cricket last night.Would think the test is evenly poised despite South Africa losing late wicket.Still need plenty of runs but Aust have the disadvantage of batting last.

It was a 2nd try for me.
Previously, I'd tried unsuccessfully to post some links from baggygreen.com.au.
In the end I gave up.

This summary of Cullen is a 2nd try for me.

Re: Cricket

Third Test, Johannesburg
South Africa 303 and 258 (Boucher 63; Clark 4/64)
Australia 270 and 248/6 (Martyn 93no  ; Lee 9no; Ntini 3/60)
Australia require a further 44 runs for victory with 4 wickets in hand
Stumps, day four

It may only effectively be 3 wickets in hand. Langer is still groggy and may not bat.
Not a very memorable 100th test, which is just as well, becasue with the blow to the head, he won't remember much of it anyway!

Re: Cricket

News just in,Trevor Hohns has stepped down as a chairman of selectors.I see this as a positive move as Hohns has been there long enough. Will be interesting to see who becomes the new selector.

Re: Cricket

Tait ruled out for Bangladesh
Kaspa and Langer in doubt

Congragulations Trevor Hohns on a fine career as test selector, his selection team has made the best team for the last 10 years and has made some tough choices over the years, including this one.

Selector will come from NSW say Rixon, Robertson
Hilditch to be chairman

Will be interesting next 12 mths with a new era starting as we will have new coach after the World Cup.

True. Hohns on the whole has done a fine job :clap, however in light of some of his recent decisions, this is a wise move.

Well put ToO.

Re: Cricket

Like to see Gilchrist take a break from cricket for a while to freshen up as his (batting) performances have really tailed off....Bangladesh would be a perfect opportunity to blood a new keeper ,perhaps Hartley from Qld ?....Reckon Tait may have to modify his action to become/remain a viable prospect....Had no cricket yet injured again...Opportunity beckons for a young quick ....
