Re: Cricket

2 big positives that have emerged since the ashes, Mike Hussey. And Brett Lee has improved a lot in his bowling strategies. If he keeps that up, Tait can then be the new Lee.

Batting is very reliant on Ponting & Hussey.Whilst Hayden's form has been okay his best is behind him. Ponting & Hussey are the keys to a good score.

Re: Cricket

In selection news Jason Gillespie has been recalled for the treacherous tour of Bagladesh along with Mitch Johnson & Phil Jacques replacing the injured Langer,Kasper & Tait. Why they would bother bringing Gillespie back for such an easy tour?Good to see the other 2 selected.

Re: Cricket

Exactly MB, Gillespie is a waste of a spot, playing a 3rd rate side like the Bangers is the perfect time to blood a youngster, and/or give Watson another go... very short sighted (very RFC!)

Re: Cricket

if bloody lee and kaspa are serious about a result in a dead rubber making up for the loss at edgbaston then they should all be dropped. what an idiotic thing to say.

like if we had won at edgbaston, then maybe................

Re: Cricket

Article in today's Herald Sun, stating Langer risked Death if he batted in the second innings of the last test.
May be a bit far fetched, but not hard to believe that it could spell the end for JL in test cricket.
It's apparently the7th time he's been hit in the head whilst batting, as well as numerous blows in the nets, and fielding at short leg.

I hope he gets another crack, but at 35, if Jaques goes Ok against the Banglans........

Re: Cricket

Nathan Bracken can conside rhimself unlucky.Has bowled okay but has been overlooked for hacks such as Kasper & Gillespie.

That does explain a lot about Justin :help

And mb, I would like to see Watson in for Symonds as well. I don't see Symonds as a long term soloution to our all rounders spot, he is a great one day player, but when you can put slips in place and take your time and blow on the spot, he is in trouble. And his bowling is very average at best. Would be shown up, especially against the Poms.

Watson scored a double ton against the Vics in the final, and is a handy bowler and fielder. If they are serious about this Ashes defence, then they need to look at this next group of guys, and not give hacks like Dizzy, Kasper, etc another run, when they have shown during the last series against the Poms that they are not upto standard.

Both Symonds AND Watson are not test cricket material.

They should cease the experiment on both and look for other options.

Exactly. Between Lee, Warne and Gilchrist there's plenty of runs. Lee has improved his batting dramatically and proved it's no fluke on a number of occassions.

Look for another specialist bowler or batsman but ditch Symonds(from tests) and Watson(from everything).

Unfortunately for JL his last test maybe like his first, brave and gutsy but maybe time too look after his health and give Jacques. Have been a big fan of JL but would not like him too get hurt in the future.

Agree with Lee & Warne, but the runs have dried up for Gilchrist in recent times.
He looks like he needs a spell. Bangladesh, would be a good oppurtunity to blood another keeper, especially since if Gilchrist makes runs, the value will be questioned given the quality of the opposition.

Still got an average of almost 50. Didn't get that without talent.
In saying that I do think he looks a little jaded from too much cricket.
I'd pull him from the ODI side before the test team.

Agree,Would think he will quit 1 dayer's after world cup but may still continue with test cricket. His batting is inconsistent these days but he deserves his spot & still has the ability to knock up a quick ton.

Re: Cricket

I am now the proud owner of an Australian cricket one day cap signed by the side. :clap
Looks good on the mantlepiece for now.

Good one Strugs. Your mate Mick help you out with that? ;)

Indeed he did T0oOts.
Im going to donate it to my footy club for its post season auction night at a reserve of $500,so its only temporarily mine.
We had a farewell party for him last night as he's off to play county cricket at Durham 'til september, but I spent most of the night watching the footy on the big screen.

Re: Cricket

Justin Langer has ruled out retiring after the hit to the head in the third test in Sth Africa.
He want's to play on until the Ashes next summer.
Question is, if Jaques get runs in Bangaldesh, will the selectors go back to 35 yo Langer?
Asd much as I admire & respect JL, I think missing the Bangladesh tour, probably spells the end.
