Well done to the Aussies on beating South Africa.I still believe there was no need to play Martyn & Kasper as the result would be no different. These selection decisions could hurt us next summer when we play the Poms.
Maybe but credit where it's due. Very comprehensive victories by the Aussies and it really takes the gloss off the SA ODI final win.

Although I agree on Martyn & Kasper the emergence of Hussey and Clark must please the selectors enormously.

I bet the players are loving the fact that they've rubbed Smith & Cos. nose in it.

The true test however will be the Ashes and this series win won't count for much if we don't regain them on home soil.
Agree, the ashes is the series we wnat most.Would think McGrath will come in for Kasper.

Re: Cricket

Something a little different... from Frank Keating's 'A Sporting Life' column in the Guardian today:

Lunchtime pub sessions have been lively of late, what with Cheltenham races, England rugby, Freddie Flintoff, Dean Macey and Co, but no subject drew a more warmingly rhapsodising buzz from the codgery regulars than Monty Panesar's catch. On radio Vic Marks said Monty's clinging on to the steepler after being humiliated by such a calamitous, identical miss, was the most heroic catch he had seen. For me Monty takes silver to Richard Hadlee's gold.

Brisbane, 1985: Australia 179 for eight v New Zealand. Hadlee has taken all eight. He will polish off the tail next over for sure and he retires to third man as the tyro spinner Vaughan Brown lollipops his over, the last ball of which the tailender Geoff Lawson swipes and top-edges. Hadlee hares for it. He could have tripped, fallen or simply spilled it. But Hadlee hurls himself for "the top corner" and holds the dramatic catch. Next over, of course he dismisses No 11, [Bob] Holland, to finish with nine for 52 - one run better than Jim Laker's all-time Test record of 10 for 53. Lawson c Hadlee b Brown: Test history's most imperishably heroic catch.

Any drum that doesn't have Martyn in it is fine by me.

Re: Cricket

SK Warne is a cricketing God.
The greatest spinner and perhaps bowler ever to take the field :clap :clap :clap

Contrast that to Andre Nel.
An absolute rubbish pie chucking two bob hack when he's at his best.
An embarrassment to himself and his 3rd rate side.
Mouth off once you become at least county cricket standard arseclown because as of now thats light years away.

Re: Cricket

well done lads.
great win.
but SK Warne as man of the match? Punter with 2 tons must wonder how many he has to make to get the gong.
without punters 2 innings; warnie's efforts would have been irrelevant.

Ponting should have been man of the match. How they could even consider another player is beyond me.

Good to see a bowler get man of the match, you still need 20 wickets to win a test.

Agree. Nel is the biggest wanka on their team and considering they also have Smith and Pollock thats a pretty decent acheivement

Cant agree at all,he is a cricketing nobody trying to be somebody.
Words backed up by actions?? He's beyond contempt.
The only entertaining thing about Aunty Nelly is watching his pie floaters smashed all over the park.

Agree,I like Nell. He's prepared to stand up to the Aussies. The problem is you don't mouth off after you have been spanked all around the park as Gilchrist did.

..and this is where he comes across as an idiot but every good drama needs a villian. Nel is someone we love to hate and sport needs more characters like that IMO.

Darren Lehmann for one, and he's put the numbers on the board over the last two domestic seasons.
