Cruising at 198/2 but then lost a few late. Lee went in as nightwatchman but was soon out so Symonds had to go in anyway, and was promptly cracked in the head by Ntini.

Ponting good hundred but dropped on five and then on 36 Smith and Kallis, who were first and second slip, simply turned and stared at each other as the ball bisected them.

That pitch is damn tough to bat on. I have a feeling the Aussies are i a very sound position. Might be another short test match :

Good pickup.  I watched the first 2 sessions and barely tolerated the TV commentary saying how tight the SA Bowling was.  Utter Nonsense.  When Punter and the boys are 2 down in 4 hours and scoring at 2.5 runs per over then the pitch must be playing games.  It seems to be very slow with tennis ball bounce and occasional balls spitting up off the turf.  Also, each end is different - one slow and low the other quicker with more venom.  The batters can't get their eye in and have to rely on working the ball with soft hands for singles and twos.  Gillie will struggle IMO as he'll find it difficult to play his horizontal bat shots.

I reckon if we can get 320+ it will be enough to win the game, but Huss and Simmo will need to make the bulk of them.

PS - Lee got a shocker.  Definitely not out.

Vics finally get 1st wicket.Stevens run out for 66 but QLD still in strong position at 1/162 & scoring at 4 an over.They could even reel in Vic's total today.

QLD as good as won the Pura Cup.They are 1/291.

Aussie 7 for 313 at lunch.
Warnies smashed 35 off 29 balls.
Hussey a solid 41 no.

Building a solid total now although perhaps the wicket is getting easier? Time will tell.
350 would be a good effort I would think.

Don't care what he's done in ODIs but yet to be 'sold' on Symonds as a Test player...

Warne just out , 8-316.....Hussey may be able to guide the total towards 350,with a bit of luck,which should be more than competitive...

Gibbs dropped off Lee after 2 balls - could of had a 2 fa. Sharp catch but should of been taken by the captain in slips....

Hussey a bit stiff to be given lbw but its dangerous not playing a shot.Smith's shot was disgraceful & gibbs kept low but he always seems to get bowled.Could be a short test.
