Re: Cricket

JB,I wasn't a bad bloke when you collected all that cash on Hewitt. How quickly you've forgotten.

Re: Cricket

Was surprised to see Klinger not playing for a start but then again he didn't make any runs in this match. White is batting well just a pity he cant take any wickets at the moment

Re: Cricket

Selectors using the excuse for not picking Jacques that his fielding needs too improve. They have got to be joking. Also Mitch Johnson's 1 day figures are woeful so how he got in the squad is beyond me.

Re: Cricket

Can bat...can't field.

Bloody ridiculous decision.
Marto can't score a run but he can throw better than Jacques. LMAO. Since when has this been a prerequisite.

Agree,Selectors are clutching at straws using fielding as an excuse.

Just watch Martyn in the field - tell me that he is up to standard. Put him in the outfield and watch his lollies come in to the keeper...bloody ridiculous arguement by the ACB but what do you expect ::) ::) Seems like they have their selection conferences down at the local imo. They are bloody in la la land.

No they have done a fantastic job over the 15 years and Trevor Hohns has been chairman for probably last 10, sure some we have not agreed on but the fact is we have been no 1 for 12 years in tests and one dayers and apart from a few games the selectors have got it right every time. I agree Katich should not have been there but he ended up having a fine series so the selectors perservence in him at this has paid off. I too would like to see Jacques in there for perhaps Martyn but that may happen very soon. Its pretty hard job being a selector of the best cricket nation when thousands of other people think they can do a better job.

The next 4 years will be interesting to see how they go in the transition period. I think they will do well as we have changed a lot since our domination started in 1994 or even before hand when we were no 2 as have punted on some great players that we all may have thought did not deserve a spot ie Warne Lee and McGrath after limited shield matches. Langer and Hayden when they had no support. Bringing in Hussey when many were looking for someone under 30. Telling Waugh brothers, Healy, Taylor and Slater their time was up at the right time. Playing Colin Miller etc. Trevor Hohns and the selectors may get something wrong like everyone else ( players I wanted picked at some stages include Craig Howard, Troy Corbett and Phil Alley does anyone remember them). The selectors may the tough decisions and thats why we have done so well and are clearly not duds.
:clap

Its people like Geoff Lawson who does not see the big picture out of Sydney that is a dud

Fair point mk33 but maybe Hohns's time is up just like some of the players he keeps persevering with?
It doesn't change the fact that Martyn & Katich have been given countless opportunites to come good. Of course they'll get a score eventually!
Martyn in particular must be good at buying rounds, that's all I can think....

PS: It was Trev's selections(see middle order, fast bowlers) that played a big part in us losing the Ashes.

Agree re Martyn ToO I think he does not care anymore when batting. I thought maybe unlucky for Tests considering he was our best bat prior to the Ashes but dropping him turned out to be a good decision as he has not played well all year.

Katich is highly regarded and I thought could be stablishing influence in middle order like Waugh. Has never had an extended run and been unlucky, (dropped twice after bigger scores for injured batsman returning). Did struggle in Tests and deserved to be dropped but one day was solid but given confidence has had good summer and deserved to stay as openerener. I will admit I did think Jacques was a better option (and may still be) but Katich desreves to stay

Fast bowlers in england we were unlucky as all were in good form leading up to England and deserved to go (Tait got in as we do not have a swing bowler in Australia). McGrath got injured, Gillespie and Kaspa lost form in England and Tait did well first up.

I think next 18 mths will test Trevor and how really good he is with Ashes, World Cup, series against Bangledesh, retirements of Buchanan, Gilchrist, Langer and McGrath. I think still right man foir the job at this stage.

Agree,Hohns is a bit too sensative.Lawson was giving an opinion which was backed up by stats.

Re: Cricket

Lawson is only looking at his own interets in NSW. Stats dont tell all the story, the selectors do see all the state matches. Lawson doesn't
