Re: Cricket

Dorey is no good. Too slow and predictable. Doesnt do anything with the ball.

The third and fourth bowling spots in the ODI team are wide open - and we'll be no chance at the World Cup with a bowling line-up similar to todays, but I have no real ideas on who can fill these spots.

Clark?
Hopes?
Dorey?
Watson?
Bracken?
Johnson?
Cleary?

Re: Cricket

Edmondson ?
Lewis ?
Harwood ? Is a favourite of mine, personally I rate him ahead of Lewis

Did anyone hear Symonds when he got hit by the batsman at non striker end

Bill Lawry just dear oh dear

Katich proves he's a hack. His World Cup chances are shot.

And what about Martin ToO - his selection really irkes me a bit mate- well past his used by date and time to move on. Why the hell Jacques wasnt kept in the squad is beyond me....

Re: Cricket

Team should be

Jacques
Clarke
Ponting
?/Hussey
Symonds
Gilchrist/Haddin
Hussey/?/Hopes/Watson
Hopes/Watson/Hogg
Lee
Bracken/?
McGrath

Hopefully super sub rule will be disbanded by then if not it will prob be Hogg

World Cup will be McGrath and Gilly farewell appearance

I like Clarke opening up but he may slot at no 4 if Gilly opens, Jaques needs to be continued played.
No 4 and/or extra bat will come from current members Martyn and Katich.
Other options are Hodge, D.Hussey, Cosgrove (perhaps my choice), Fergusson and Voges as long shots.
Warne still retired, White may go as extra bowler, definately up to standard as no 7 bat but not up to standard as first strike bowler.
Watson/Hopes one will go dont know if can afford to take both for their bowling as none are about to standard of no 4 bowler and even though there batting is good at no 8 they are rarely can be relied upon and Lee is good enough at no 8. Super sub may save both.
Extra bowler Bracken is no 3 bowler and has not done too much wrong to displace of that. Dorey maybe not up to it yet still raw. Lewis is next in line and has done well but personally I am more of a fan of Shane Harwood but he does get injured a bit. Others too consider Ben Edmondson, Mitchell Johnson, Jason Gillespie, Paul Rofe and Shaun Tait.

My 15 at this stage if it was to be picked for this year be

Ponting, Jaques, Symonds, M.Hussey, Clarke, Cosgrove, Gilchrist, Hogg, White, Watson, Bracken, Lee, MCgrath, Harwood, Hodge

replacements
Haddin, Cullen, Katich, Hopes, Rofe

but it was 12mths away yet and form can change so much who would have thought Martyn and Clarke and Gillespie would be out of the test team.

Hopefully we get back to picking the best team for the rest of the series as you should never flirt with your form.

I must say I am with you there Tuby in regards to Martyn. I have always been a fan of his but he seemed to just throw his wicket away in the last three innings and I have real doubts over his opening capabilities. So it begs the question, when the opening three failed as they did quite horribly last night (and on friday, except Jacques) what wil the selectors do? Given they have now come out loud and clear that it really doesn't matter what you do, the incumbant is always the prefered option, even if it is not the best option.

I was at the match yesturday and the home town crowd were not incredibly impressed, especially when McGrath was "rotated" out as well, especially given the fact that it was the 100th ODI at the SCG. Now I am not one to say that NSW should be dominant (especially given the way the Blues play without three quarters of their team - with Jacques and Haddin being removed in the middle of the shield game it leaves a fairly hefty gap!!), but Jacques deserved to keep his spot ahead of either Martyn or Katich, especially at home, and on his home ground McGrath would have been a fairly obvious choice. Rest him next week.

Selectors wrong to sideline McGrath - http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,17902866-32462,00.html

Our batting was slow from the opening ball and then when quick wickets fall you know you are in trouble, but it was great to see Haddin (will be a good back up and eventual replacement to Gilly) get some runs and the partnership between Symonds and Clarke (in particular) was fantastic. I actually thought Bracken bowled well, especially in he and Lees second spells when they had to come on and peg back the embarrassingly high run rate. Which would have to be a worry for bowling depth and I wonder if Lee will get rested at all during this very long ODI season. Fit as he is, he did look a bit understandably tired yesturday.
Just my opinion  ;D !!!

Anyway on to Adelaide and hopefuly some Australian revenge  ;) ;D !!!

Re: Cricket

Share the concerns re the top order but yesterday's game lost in the field, more particularly, bowling options.Dumb call to go into a match at the country's most spin friendly pitch without a spinner of some note, let alone ommitting McGrath & Jacques......Martyn's recent 20/20 pyrotechnics can now be seen in better/truer context...

Re: Cricket

Seem to have lost between the 10th and 20th over of the Sri Lankans' innings, about 80 runs off 10 overs.

Coincided with the bowling of the inexperienced bowlers. Not to worry, all of Bracken, Hopes, Dorey & other younsters need is to build up as much gametime as they can between now and the World Cup.

Get them up to 50 ODIs each then let's have a look at them.

Re: Cricket

Martyn and Crapich (Katich ) are not openers and are 2 of the players who always fold under pressure and England exposed back to NSW and WA ...Jacques must play

Last night was a bit of a peek into the future post Mcgrath and Warne I suspect.Australia will still prove to be a dominant force in the future but it wont come as 'easy' as it has over the last decade.Plenty of depth in our future batting but we definately have to unearth the next Mcgrath and or Warne if we want to remain undisputed numero uno.Dorey doesn't look like the answer on first impressions but of course he's only young.I quite like Hopes, reminds me of a real State type cricketer, will be a good bit part player.

Agree with others re Jaques,a real talent and really enjoyed watching him live at TD. Was extremely stiff to be dropped.

I totally agree with you here Queenie. I may well be living in the past but if Michael Bevan(when fit) isn't still a better option in the one dayers than half of these pretenders in the side at the moment, I don't know who is? I still believe Bevo was very stiff at his treatment by the selectors. A proven matchwinner in ODI's over a long period who was seemingly dumped at the drop of a hat because of a few poor matches. Although I will say that Michael Hussey is very Bevanesque when on song. Although it is still very early days for Hussey he is filling that role adequately so far.
Still the way some of these blokes are travelling, Bevan may still be a surprise selection for the 2007 World Cup.

South Africa beat Sri Lanka to keep competition very close.Still bewildered by the decision to persist with Kattich ahead of Jacques.Hopes can bat but can't bowl & Dorey's a dud leaving us with a very thin bowling attack.

No wonder Cricket fans are starting to get "bored" with the current setup if the selectors etc dont take the VB series seriously MB.

Agree Skipper, the selectors are not looking good at the minute & will have egg on their faces if we miss the vb final.

Re: Cricket

If the selectors have the world cup in mind then surely someone like a Cameron White should be given a go and with the return of Warne you can have something like this:
Gilly
Langer/Hayden
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Symonds
White
Warne
Lee
3rd quick
Mcgrath

Cant understand for the life of me why either Langer or Hayden are not playing. You have 3 quicks and Warne and White & Symonds to share the 5th bowler,s spot with maybe a Clarke if things are not going well with the other 2.
The big bonus is Cameron Whites batting.Coming in at no7 would take alot of pressure of the top order.
Anyway thats how id select the side for the World cup.

Re: Cricket

Are you blokes jumping off Hopes already?I reckon he's worth persisting with.Agreed he was bloody ordinary bowling against Jayasuria the other night but apart from that I reckon he's been reasonablty tight.

Seems we all agree early signs of Dorey aren't good.
