May be - I'm just not sure that when it's all added up we are that much worse than others. All teams have their tactics, Pakistan have a guy trying to scuff up the pitch, England flaunt the substitute laws. . .

For mine, Australia's behaviour over the last few years has been excellent although they have admittedly gone further than I'd like this summer. The team always seems to get a lot of criticism that feels a bit tall poppy-ish to me.

And who can forget the petulant displays of some Sri Lankan cricketers in the past? Or the team which first elevated sledging to it's present art form....

Peter Roebuck's comment during the 3rd test that the blame for the OTT behaviour lay squarely with the Match referee was IMO spot on. (When something indefensible happens you jump right on it, nip it in the bud, you certainly don't allow it th escalate.)

Looking forward to tonight's 20/20 game. This form of cricket seems to be getting the thumbs up judging by the crowd numbers.May eventualy replace 50 over games that have become quite boring in the middle overs.
I've not yet made up my mind about 20/20. I haven't seen a game yet but I don't like the talk of it replacing the 50 over form of the game. I can't see anything wrong with the duration of 50 over games and the pace of play.

I can see an extended cricket season to make room for 20/20 series, but I don't like the idea of One-Dayers being replaced.

The main thing is that it does not replace test cricket.
One day cricket really can be boring in most matches for middle 30 overs of most matches any way.
Just 20/20 is no fun for a bowler only if your a really good bowler.

Roebuck has, for once, missed the point. (Incidentally, a few days over he had described Ponting and one of these over-appealing episodes as "petulant".)

The players have the ICC over a barrel for this sort of thing these days. If they get fined 75% of their match fee then no matter, some endorsement or other will fix up the shortfall. Chris Broad or any other referee is never going to ban someone for this type of offence -- in the Virender Sehwag debacle of 2001 the ICC tried the hard line and ended up with egg on their face, and so they are reluctant to follow that path any more.

Re: Cricket

Fair enough Ready.
My biggest beef is the "bashing" the boys cop in the media when other sides are equally at fault.

Looking forward to the day when the Tiges are the victims of Tall Poppy Syndrome ;D

They should somehow mix 20/20 and ODI's into some sort of hybrid game. This 20/20 seems to much like a kids cricket game in the backyard.

Agreed Andy. (on both counts!)

Re: Cricket

TGN, i agree, there are heaps of sides who are shockers on the field. i cant believe the light suspension that afridi got for racking the pitch with his boots. just a case of the pot calling the kettle black i think

Re: Cricket

50 over one dayers have become boring between overs 16 and 40 so somthing has had to be done maybe turn one dayers into say 35 overs a side instead or somthing like that.
I like this 20/20 stuff good action and great for kids as they cant sit through a whole day of cricket 8)

Re: Cricket

Is it me or does that Botha's bowling action look suss. Do we have another chucker in the Murali mould ???

This game is, as Red loves: SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFT.

Re: Cricket

20/20 is just a hit and giggle game. Simple as that - great if you dont have anything to do on the night but in the big picture a bloody joke....
