Does 50 over matches even need rescuing?I reckon it works just fine.Maybe the reason some people are finding it boring is because Australia has been so dominant in it for the last decade.
Wrong, the poularity of 50 over games has been waning & although still reasonably popular the administrators have rcognised there needs to be change.Supersub's are just something that has been introduced & I believe there will be more changes coming.

I dont like the concept either Evo however the 50 over matches are getting far to predictable and stale.Thats the problem
To me the only way to rescue the 50 over format would be to have more fielding restrcitions for the whole 50 overs.
Agreed MB.In the past i would go out of my way to watch the one dayers as nearly as much as i would watch the Tigers however of the recent past its nothing more than a passing interest for me.They have identified the problem in England and hence the 20/20 version.
One thing about the 20/20 version. Why have a bonified whitcketkeeper? Why not just have an extra batsman who can keep?

I remember hearing the Tassies made up a new style of cricket or is it 20/20 still ?

Think you will find Skipper the next keeper of Aust will have to be a very good bat that is a handy keeper. This will be for all forms of cricket.

which is precisely why Brad Haddin was the one in the side last night.

There a few posts back during the test Craig. A couple of us picked it up.

I assume you saw he's been referred to the ICC because of it?

Re: Cricket

I reckon what would really shake up 50-over cricket (which I've never liked in the first place) is if each team faced their overs in 10 over blocks. E.g., team A bats for their first 10 overs. Then Team B faces their overs 1 to 20. Then A faces overs 11 to 30, B faces overs 21 to 40, A faces 31 to 50 and then B faces 41 to 50. It might sound radical but by alternating who bats first each time you only need to swap over five times, so that could be structured around the lunch and drinks breaks.
Benefits: Give D/L the flick. Rain interrupted games could be decided by who was leading at the most recent 10-over interval.
Reduce the impact of batting first in day games or batting last in night games.
Make for more interesting ebb and flow during the game.
Bowlers might be fresher, thereby giving them a bit af an edge which I think they lack in one-dayers.

I had this idea about 10 years ago and then I thought it was way too radical for the people then running cricket. Now after such gems as Twenty20, supersubs, the ICC Superseries and NICKNAMES ON SHIRTS I think it's probably not radical enough!!

Re: Cricket

Different idea 23.21 but why not.
My main problem with 20/20 cricket is that it is not cricket, after seeing a match live and then Monday night for a cricket pursist it will get boring easy. There was no traditional cricket shots it was like glorified baseball/cricket. Can see the entertainment value for families how good it is that a match finishes in 3hrs.

Re: Cricket

Just on another thing which may seem like old news now.
Shane Warne in Sundays paper saying he may quit international cricket if he divorces from Simone and does not spend time with his family, so he may quit int cricket to do this. Fair enough as you should put family first but then in same story he mentions children can visit him when he is playing for Hampshire on the other side of the world for 6mths. So Hampshire is more important than Australia.

Also Simone Warne on dancing with the stars !!, is she the star or have they found a star to dance with her. If she is the star then they are at the bottom of the barrel who else is on the show Helen D'Amico, Peter Hore, Anthony Callea, Hot Dogs, Diggler.

Re: Cricket

Just noticed that Channel 9 are showing the whole Aust v Sri Lanka ODI tomorrow at Telstra Dome.

Anybody know why ?

Maybe cos they know no one can be bothered wasting 60 bucks or more on a day there to watch another no contest

Re: Cricket

Think Cricket Australia signed an agreement prior to season start allowing Ch9 to show all matches 'live' against the gate , hence telecast no longer limited to '1st 2 hours of a ODI & last session (Test) in town / area hosting the match..

Re: Cricket

Sri Lanka won the toss and sent us in. Looks to be a poor crowd but more will probably front up for the night session. Martyn, Clarke, Kattich, Hopes playing. Hogg 12th man.

Hard to understand Sri Lanka's decision.Guess the game will go a bit longer now.

Re: Cricket

Attapattu (sp?) was asked about his decision and he said it was to utilise the super sub better. I didn't hear his reasoning though.

Think it might be to help their batting Rosy. They'll probably need plenty of it.
