20/20 is just a hit and giggle game. Simple as that - great if you dont have anything to do on the night but in the big picture a bloody joke....
Agree Tuby.

Looks like those Brisbane Lions fans might as well soak in the enjoyment of tonight's 20/20 game because they won't get much enjoyment out of footy this year...................we hope.

Its called entertainment.Big hitting all night & eliminates the boring part of a 1 day game.In the big picture I see a big future for 20/20 as do spectators & certainly do not class it as a joke.

If i got to see my side win 3 premierships on the trot i couldnt give a fat rats if they didnt win a game for the next 2 years :hihi :hihi :hihi

Re: Cricket

Bring on the footy season, this cricket is turning into a bloody joke. Fancy  RSA making half the total of our second string side. ACB might have fun trying to fill the stands for the rest of the summer after that debacle tonight.

I still think there's a lot of merit in this 5 overs a game hybrid. The bowlers have to bowl lollipops, 3 fieldsmen per side, bring the fence into where the old circle used to be for the 50 over game etc.
I've got no patience for this 20 over stuff. Give me some real entertainment. I want to see carnage!!!

Let's bring in Eddie and Sam to do the commentary..........................at least we can REALLY laugh. :hihi

Re: Cricket

I'm with MB! I thought it was great entertainment. Fast & furious. You can't honestly compare it to 1 day let alone test as there's nothing like it. Each whack was met with a thunderous rock tune over the loud speakers. Great stuff for a night match! I'm sure if it were played at the G there'd be a heap of us there tonight sinking beers and getting amongst it! :clap

Re: Cricket

I couldn't look away, tonight. Loved the game. But I wonder if I'll get desensitised to it or the 50 over form after watching it for long enough... :-\

Re: Cricket

I think Graeme Smith had it right when they interviewed him at the end of the match.

Its a great way to promote an upcoming one-day series.

Fast, exciting, bit hitting and a quick way for the players to switch from test to one-day mode.

If it became a regular event, I wonder whether the excitement of the bit hit would still be there?

Re: Cricket

Loved the game, except for the commentary. Specifically ian healy at the start. Heals is one of my all time favourite players, but as a commentator last night, I think he tried too hard, especially at the start. The game was exciting enough in the first 5 overs without him trying to hype it up more. Nearly wet his pants over a dot ball ffs. I liked the idea of miking up the players, might get to hear some of these sledges by accident ;D

Re: Cricket

Acknowledge the entertainment value of 20/20, particularly for the young & the casual observers , but the concept really further devalues the supposed contest between bat & ball.

Wouldn't mind seeing runs deducted for 'dot' balls (-1) & wicket balls (say -2 caught & runout & -4 bowled & lbw) to reward bowlers in some way else teams will eventually be totally comprised of batsmen who can bowl a little. Also think teams that win in terms of wickets as well as runs should be given bonus points (should feature in One Day matches) .

Re: Cricket

I've seen a bit of it over here. I tired of it very quickly. It all merges into one after not too long.

Re: Cricket

I'm with TF and ToO.

20/20 sucks. It's making a mockery of cricket for mine.As ToO was saying whats next,5 overs with underarm lollipops?

Whose attention span is so short they can't watch a 50 0ver match?Typical idea to get bandwagoners. No wonder mb likes it. :whistle

Re: Cricket

I dont like the concept either Evo however the 50 over matches are getting far to predictable and stale.Thats the problem

Re: Cricket

50 over a side matches.....Probably tinkering with the basics of the game too much but how 'bout doubling the value of 4s & 6s when the fielding restrictions are relaxed , say after over 20 ?

To me the only way to rescue the 50 over format would be to have more fielding restrcitions for the whole 50 overs.

Re: Cricket

Does 50 over matches even need rescuing?I reckon it works just fine.Maybe the reason some people are finding it boring is because Australia has been so dominant in it for the last decade.

That dominance will soon end (or a leat be equalised) with the retirement of Mcgrath and Warne.

Agreed MB.In the past i would go out of my way to watch the one dayers as nearly as much as i would watch the Tigers however of the recent past its nothing more than a passing interest for me.They have identified the problem in England and hence the 20/20 version.
One thing about the 20/20 version. Why have a bonified whitcketkeeper? Why not just have an extra batsman who can keep?
