Re: Cricket

The first five times he tried to pull from outside off he missed completely, then didn't time a few, then clubbed a few. Tried the dab over slips etc. but perished having a hook -- caught behind off the gloves.

Re: Cricket

I have had all kinds of fun at the cricket over the past three days (thrilled it didn't start on New Years Day though!!!) and hopefully it will be just as entertaining tomorrow (knocking them over cheaply, so we can have a good chase on the final day), and it was a great way to finish today with Lee's wicket on the final ball of the day. I'm just thankfull it was given out!!!

But I have to say that the umpires have been bloody awful. I actually think they have got themselves confused about what is actually out or not out in regards to lbw's and even caught behinds. And they have been poor against both teams as well. I actually feel sorry for Ashwell Prince for some of the decisions he has copped in the last couple of matches.

Now the Aussies have always done a fairly effective war dance when appealing for a wicket, but I genuinely have not noticed too much of a difference between this and previous matches. Frankly I think they are just getting more and more fustrated with umpiring incompetance. Blind Freddy could have made some better decisions.

Personnally I think the umpires should be more concerned with getting their decisions right (Lee had Kallis out twice lbw; Smith should have been caught behind; Hussey was lbw today; and Symonds' decision was just horrible - not that he instills me with a hell of a lot of confidence under any circumstances, but I'm especially nervous when our backs are against the wall) than all this other stuff because I think the other stuff follows on from the bad decisions.

And just for the record they are getting a little precious with their dissent charge. While at the ground we saw nothing except a (rightfully) fustrated (pissed off!!) bowler asking for clarification. I have seen plenty worse from other Australians as well as other teams that would be regarded as dissent. That just seemed ridiculous, but it probably summed up Lee's day really.

I just saw my first video of Botha bowling. Looks like someone has been watching Murali and decided if the authorities aren't going to stop throwing you may as well exploit it.

Ridiculous.

He did look a bit chucky TGN!!!

Re: Cricket

Billy certainly didn't cope to well with pain of the ball clipping his fingers. May be it was his arthritis that casued him to be in agony.

Re: Cricket

1st wicket today falls when Smith is out lbw.Ball looked to be going over the stumps so another dubius decision in this match.Umpiring has been terrible with Aust getting the advantage.

One guy I don't feel sorry for. Suck eggs Smith.
Maybe so but my concern is the Aussies have had the better of the umpiring this match so w ecould be in for some shockers in our 2nd innings.

Re: Cricket

Couldn't watch the cricket yesterday (what little there was, thanks sydney) due to work, but heard that Glenn McGrath was reported for something or other. All I could find out in the paper was he was upset when Warnie dropped a catch. He didn't abuse anyone, just was annoyed. Are officials going over the top with all this or is it warranted in this situation? First the ICC want to ban verbal barbs in the papers etc, now this. Yet they do nothing about chuckers, Zimbabwe etc

He was reprimanded by the ICC (for the sixth time) for, wait for it.....using foul language!!!

And it was apparently when Warne dropped a catch so it wasn't even at the umpires.

He got the same disciplanary action as Brett Lee did (reprimand) the other day for something equally as stupid, but they also reported South African coach Mickey Auther for criticising the umpires (and their shocking decision making) in the press. His hearing is this morning (6/1). It wil be interesting to see what happens, but he probably won't escape without a reprimand or a fine.

Apparently the umpires and the match referee have decided to take a "tough" stance against the perceived Australian bad tempers. And obviuosly the umpires are untouchable when it comes to criticism.

And although the cricket is being unfortunately disrupted the rain comes as a very welcome relief up here, given the fact we haven't seen it at all in over a month, we burned down over New Years, and there are a few problems with a drought ;) !!!

Thanks for that QueenC. Oh, and the rain. I was complaining only from a selfish point of view. ;)

Re: Cricket

Macgill picking up cheap wickets as South Africa go for the slog.South Africa have a lead of 244.Would think they would set Aussies a target of around 300.
