Re: Cricket

Bad shot selection agreed there MB Haydos no better, Aussies in big trouble at the minny. :-\

Re: Cricket

For some reason I find Nel and his carrying on reasonably amusing.

Hodge will go on the return tour to South Africa but will want to sort out the deficiencies in his game before then. Otherwise he might struggle to keep his spot.

Agree Ready, very soft dismissal by Hodge.Future at test level uncertain.Need Hussey & Ponting to make some runs.

Aussie middle order is far from settled yet :help. The rebuild continues and will for some time yet. there is little doubt this once unbeatable side is in decline.
Hodge, after a promising start is letting his opportunity slip. Must capitalise in the second dig.

PS. Ready I agree. Nel is a great character and his antics are a hoot.

Re: Cricket

Agreed about Hodge.Sadly as a fellow Victorian i have to say he,s not up to test standard.Forget about his dble ton[remember he was dropped early on].His weakness outside off stump is obvious. He may and has got away with it at state level however at test level he,s ben exposed excpecially early on.

Re: Cricket

Here's a beauty of a challenge, the Aussie cricket team next time it tours England in 2009.

Name your 16, then 12.

Re: Cricket

Tough, here we go.

Phil Jacques
Chris Rogers
Ricky Ponting
Llyod Mash or David Hussey or Brad Hodge- just get a Vic.
Micheal Clarke
Mike Hussey
Shaun Marsh
Mark Cosgrove- token Boon look alike.
Chris Hartley
Shane Watson if ift or Dominc Thornley.
Daniel Cullen
Mitchell Johnson
Alan WIse
SK Warne
Nathan Bracken
Brett Lee

Very tough, I think our bowling stocks are much more worrying then our batting. I dare say there will be one or two bolters that will bob up between now and then.

Don't write him off just yet.Whilst he got dropped in Perth he got a shocking decision in Melb so it works both ways.He still made a double ton. Some days you have luck, some you don't.He still deserves some more time but he will need to eradicate soft dismissals like yesterday.Symonds ,all of a sudden is safe on the back of a slog fest in Melb & questions need to be asked about Langer after his deplorable innings yesterday.

Re: Cricket

There is already the odd commentator over here saying they'll lose the Ashes next year. Perhaps it's that typical downtrodden English spirit.

I'm not so sure. McGrath looks to be on the slide, bowling stocks thin past Lee and Warne and I'm still not convinced with Gilchrist and Langer. (fast bowlers and openers tend not to last as long as they have let alone add another year.)  Hodge has played a good innings but has yet to make the position his and Symonds' only innings was really a one day knock. I'm not saying the latter two wont make it but there's still plenty of work to do IMO. At least Hussey has got in!

This test will be an interesting case study. It's the first time we've been put under pressure since the Ashes.

Warne announced sometime ago that he would no longer be touring.

Ashes 17 2009, there is though bound to be 1-2 who have not played first class cricket yet, I have just gone for players that have.

If you pick 2007 World Cup squad I would have Cosgrove

Already reckon the pitches will be doctored. No bounce for Harmison and no abrasive surfaces for Jones and Flintoff.

Meanwhile Hussey can thank his lucky stars he wasn't given leg before to Nel just then.

Re: Cricket

Aussies going along well at 3/119.Hussey lucky to survive. This partnership will be critical if Aust are to get near South Africa's 1st innings total.

Re: Cricket

I reckon he was absolutely plumb, and the umpire was conned by the bat hitting the boot and the ball rebounding from pad to bat. About time for Botha I reckon.

doesn't get much plumber.

Re: Cricket

Surely doesn't. Reminded of a Test at the 'Gabba against New Zealand where Chris Cairns had Langer absolutely plumb with the third ball of the match.... Langer departed after tea with a hundred against his name.

With all these poor decisions many could be recified with the introduction of the 3rd umpire. Can't work out why they don't change.

3rd umpire would have given both out.
