sick of aussies asking for umpires explanations after there ridiculous appeals are turned down, he shouldnt have to explain......
Agree,I would bring in the 3rd umpire for more decisions.

I would think that this suggestion Mb is only a matter of time.
I hope so Tuby because it will take alot pressure off the umpires & I believe will curtail the appeals.

Re: Cricket

Just got home from the Hopman Cup, Australia v Germany, and must say I enjoyed the challenge referal to Hawkeye, it adds some interest for the crowd and took no time at all compared to the third umpire decisions. Interestingly the players were right probably 3 times out of 4 at their own end.

I would like to see LBW decisions trialled in some 20/20 games and see how it goes. It might actually stop some of the stupid appeals. I mean you can't bluff a computer.

Re: Cricket

We had to leave just before the end unfortunately but I believe it was 10-8 to Germany in the 3rd set of the mixed doubles.

Re: Cricket

plus with the amount of money bet on cricket these days, how would one feel if they were betting, and they get out to ridiculours decisions.

aussies have been lucky with the umpiring this summer, lara was unlucky

Agree Bunnerz,Lara had some shockers.

Re: Cricket

Yep Jools, Aussies lost the toss and SA in to bat first off on a overcast afternoon. McGraths first over near saw De Villiars go caught behind but was given not out - fair call i would say.

Re: Cricket

Wicket looks pretty green.Ponting just dropped a easy catch in slips.Could be a tough session for South Africa.

Re: Cricket

The balls swinging all over the place MB - Gilchrist is having a tough time of it behind the stumps.  Ponting should of got that catch - really didnt have to dive for it.

Agree Tuby,Lee gets 1st wicket with De Villiers caught behind.Might turn out to be a good toss to lose.

Re: Cricket

Great ball by Lee gets De Villiars gone for 2 - SA 1 for 16. Wouldnt be surprised to see them at least 3 for at Tea. They were saying before the game it is the same conditions which saw Bracken get 7-4 last year.

Smiths looking very ominious today - he could be in for a big one for the SA's. Like for us to send him on his way early.

Re the fuss about excessive appeals:

Umpire dismisses appeals storm
Email Print Normal font Large font By Trevor Marshallsea
January 3, 2006

AUSTRALIA does not appeal too much, in fact not as often as some other cricketing nations, according to one of the men in the hot seat in the third Test today, Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar.

Dar, who has umpired Australia in 10 of his 26 Tests, felt the storm surrounding Australia's appealing had been overblown, saying he usually felt much more pressure standing in matches involving teams from the subcontinent, which usually involve a high number of spinners.

"They're all right, I think," Dar said of the Australians. "Their job is appealing and our job is to say whether it's out or not out. There should not be unnecessary appealing. But they (Australia) are all right. In the subcontinent, you see more appeals, in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka."

Australians have been accused of pushing umpires into granting them borderline decisions when bowling, through excessive appealing and, with Shane Warne in particular, calculated comments to the umpires between deliveries.

Despite this, Dar said that on an average Test day, he would not feel more harried — nor more exhausted by stumps — if there was a relatively large number of appeals to adjudicate upon.

Might be right Tuby, sooner or later you would think he will get a big score.McGrath bowls Gibbs for 27.Could this be a start of a collapse?

Re: Cricket

Smith has lucky escape where it looks like he was caught behind but given not out.Aussies constant appealing may be coming back to haunt them.

Agree - should of been 3 down without doubt. Simmonds didnt help by going up very late of his own bowling though Mb.
