Re: Cricket

Suggest for the next Test at the 'G replace Langer with Jacques, Symonds replaced by M Clark, Macgill to come in for Warnie, Thornley to replace Hayden (didn't fire a shot this test) Katich has to come back in for Hussey (only scored a 50+ this test) S Clark to get a run after being 12th man (replace Hodge who only made a double century) Haddin to replace badly out of form Gilchrist, leaves us with

Jacques
Thornley
Katich
Ponting (although Tasmanian does live in NSW)
M Clark
B Haddin
B Lee (all rounder)
S Clark
N Bracken
S Macgill
G McGrath

12th man toss up between Warnie and Richard Chee Quee - at least those north of the Vic border and south of the Qld border will finally be happy!

ps this is firmly tongue in cheek

Re: Cricket

Australia 258 and 528/8 dec.
South Africa 296 and 287/5
Match drawn

One of the great match-saving innings from Jacques Rudolph.

Sets up the prospect of a great Boxing Day Test.

Re: Cricket

Why Lee and Braken was left on to bowl in the last 40 overs is a mystery. They were never going to get wickets on that pitch and only spinners such as Warne and Symonds plus the likes of ponting who can bowl leg break quiet well were the key to make the SA's nervous. Pontings captaincy decisions leave alot to be desired in this match. Hopefully he can get it right sooner rather than later.

I heard Chappell say something along those lines but I've never seen him bowl anything other than the rare medium pace spell. As we saw watching Nel this match, *smile* gets wickets.

Well said, Tuby. He was just too slow to make any calls. Clearly what was happening wasn't working, and there were very few modifications being made.

Re: Cricket

In this case I have to side with the Ponting-bashers.

Even Tony Greig was saying - well before the close of yesterday's play - that the umps were conferring each time a fast bowler was due to take the next over. Yet our illustrious captain didn't pick that up.

And his performance after the umps offered the light to Safrica was embarrassing to say the least.

He could have asked why they thought the light was too bad but he kept on & on - any chance he will cop a smack around the legs for his behaviour?

Should have gone to bed without supper!

Re: Cricket

Third Test, Ahmedabad
India 398 and 287/9 (Yuvraj Singh 75)
Sri Lanka 206 (Dilshan 65; Harbhajan 7/62)
India lead by 479 with one wicket in hand
Stumps, day three

India should go on to record a 2-0 series win.

Concur about Ponting, Roar. Gets very ornery. Too much time in a front-running side for most of his career so when things go wrong he really stacks on a turn. Obviously hasn't learned his lesson from the reaction to his histrionics when run out at Trent Bridge.

I'm a great Punter fan as a batsman but his captaincy arguably cost us the Ashes and seems to be getting no better. It's a real worry as he's unlikely to lose the job for years (which will be kind of good 'cos it will mean he's batting well) and the captain's dependable soft option of throwing it to Warne and McGrath is nearly at an end. We'll HAVE to play smarter.

Re: Cricket 2nd test at MCG live all day

The HUN TV guide has the second test live all day into Melbourne?

Is this correct?

:clap

Re: Cricket

It's correct. I think cricket australia and 9 came to an agreement earlier this year to telecast all sessions into the home city, regardless of whether it's sold out or not. Don't know why but I'm not complaining :)

My wife will hate it, she normally doesn't mind this test because it is only on the TV for two hours.

:hihi

Re: Cricket

Been a bit slack. England won the last ODI to take the series to a more respectable 3-2 outcome in favour of Pakistan. Debate raging about England standing still in the one-day game and no closer to an idea of which direction to take ahead of the 2007 World Cup.

India duly knocked off Sri Lanka for a 2-0 Test series win.

Hope some of you caught the Ashes reprise on ABC Grandstand yesterday. Great memories. (Even if they ridiculously omitted the heart-in-mouth moment of Flintoff getting out just before lunch on the last day at The Oval.) So much so that if I got an Ashes DVD for Christmas I'd want the Test Match Special broadcast as commentary.

CMJ, Old Trafford: Harmison bowls... and he's caught down the leg side, is he? He's not going to give it out. Oh, yes he is!

If I were to suffer insomnia for ever more, I'd want Blofeld for company at least some of the time.

He's up to the wicket now, he bowls....

Top of the triumvirate of great Test series in my lifetime.

1. England v. Australia, 2005
2. West Indies v. Australia, 1994/95
3. India v. Australia, 2000/01

You mean I don't have to drive over the border on Boxing Day for my cricket fix??

Woo Hoo :clap :clap :clap :clap

Re: Cricket

The MCG looks great, makes me look forward to the footy even more

Better looking than the patchwork quilt at the WACA

Can't believe they worried about a bit of moisture under the covers

They should have had the extra slip in for Ponting early, he looks in good nick

Re: Cricket

Where are Claw and Diggler went we want them.

Someone has to use the "D" word.

:hihi

Re: Cricket

Could've played for England, Symonds. Didn't want him anyway. ;D

Credit to the van der Merwes, nothing flash as a bowling attack but they do persist and persist.
