Re: Cricket

Went to the test today
Interesting day sat in AFL members area, rowdiest its ever been on boxing day with a bloke kicked out near us for smoking a joint.
Good thing we batted first as we did not have the attack to bowl first (no third seamer)
Great captain innnings by Punter and Patient innings by Haydos, disappointing the middle order did not help after all the hard work.
Good move by Smith to put man in short leg for Jacques and take a catch three balls later. Hopefully he will learn from that with his next chance. Langer would have taken the blow to the body.
Ponting attacked when needed yet still respect the good ball, summed up their attack that there is no variety between the four quicks, one of his best knocks especially when you look at the scorecard.

Hodgey may have got excited in the moment but it is all part of the experience. Great ovation for him, hopefully give his want we want in 2nd innings.

Symonds, thought you had pick best 11. I know Gilly, Lee and Warne failed but on an unpredictable MCG pitch would have preffered 3 seamers and 2 spinners with him 12th man. Anyway might mean bnow that he is banished forever. Having said that I wanted to get rid of him before first world cup match in SAF as up until then he had done nothing and then he makes 150 and has not looked back. Probably will give 5 for 3bowling seamers and 2 bowling offies.

I like Nel as a competitor bit like MCgrath just needs to pick the right moment to be in your face. Ie/ great when you have 3 for and your intimaditing Warney, bit silly at Punter when he is 100 and you dropped him at 17.

Could be a great match, have an rdo Friday so hopefully sent up for an exciting great for the Aussies

Re: Cricket

Am absolutely loving the commentary on the ABC. Belinda Clark is a part of the team and she sure knows her stuff!
Just love watching the cricket with the cricket on the radio!Hussey :clap :clap :clap

Anyone been and watched from our new RFC reserved seat possie"

Re: Cricket

She's doing a good job Anduril and glad ABC has allowed to do special comments. Only listened to her yesterday but much better than Stacky. I also like Damien Fleming on the radio as well.
I saw Belinda Clark a few weeks ago on the same flight as me from Brisbane.

A big :clap to Hussey and McGrath

Re: Cricket

Well done Hussey, outstanding effort, but I reckon the media are selling someone else short by giving all the praise to him for his incredible knock.

He wouldn't have reached that tally without a very disclipined and unslefish partner at the other end.

Take a bow Ooh Ahh. The cheek of Hussy leaving you stranded 89 runs short of your century. ;D

Symonds 3 wickets and a quick 72, will now stay in proved me right and wrong.

Re: Cricket

Went, with my son, to the cricket yesterday.
Lovely. Sat in a shaded part, level 4, of the new stand. Nice cool breeze blowing.

Symonds & Hayden were spectacular and took full advantage of a South African side that was clearly affected by their 4th day in excessive heat.
Thought Ponting overbowled McGrath. Didn't make his first bowling change until the 13th over.
Bay 13 certainly let Ponting know that he had been tardy in bringing "Warney" on.
The wickets came when "Warney" was introduced.

A lovely day out. The MCG has never looked better.

Re: Cricket

South Africa grind their way to 7/159 only losing the 1 wicket thus far in this session.Fortunately we still have plenty of time to win match.Aust were silly to play MacGill a he bowls rubbish & many of his wickets are tailenders.Bracken would have been a better option.

Re: Cricket

When does this boooooooooooooring cricket finish ?

Football starts in 7 weeks.........................not a long time when you really think about it.

Re: Cricket

Oh well this one is over

Now just 1 fascinating Test Match to go

7 weeks you say, really?? Roll on March 31st :clap :clap

I think there's 2 more Tests left and then those sickening ODI wankers.

7 weeks to the Cup games.............at least it's football. ;D

Re: Cricket

Macgill does his usual trick & gets a tailender out.Game over which looked like being a good test at 1 stage.

Well done to Symonds. Hopefully it's the turning point in his career. :clap

Agree wholeheartedly Oldie, i like Symmo as he is an exciting cricketer and people will go to see him in full flight as he is very entertaining and adds some zest to a tiring side along with the HUSS who should have played in the Ashes and i reckon if Hussey played in the Ashes instaed of Martyn or Katich i reckon the Aussies woulda won as Hussey has carved up county sides for 5 years and knows the conditions inside out in England.

I agree Craig, Hussey should have played. The problem is the tour schedules these days. Hussey had more cricket (playing county cricket) than Hodge who was actually in the squad. They were unlikely to bring Hussey in to the team ahead of Hodge but couldn't justify picking Hodge because he hadn't had enough time in the middle. A paradox.

Bring back the county games between matches.

Agree Craig, unfortunately as each test went by the selectors thought the batsmen would pull them out of the mire.In the end they didn't make changes to the batting & we lost the ashes with out of form batsmen.Hussey showed in the 1 day series before the ashes that he could more than handle the English attack & conditions.

I would think that this suggestion Mb is only a matter of time.
