Re: Cricket

Australia 258 and 38/1
South Africa 296
Australia neither lead nor trail with 9 second-innings wickets in hand.

Meanwhile, the ABC radio quiz question today was: "What do Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting have in common?" Had a quick think and thought I had the answer: that both have scored double centuries in consecutive Tests -- Smith v. England at Edgbaston and Lord's, 2003, and Ponting v. India at Adelaide and Melbourne, 2003/04. Couldn't get through. Then they give the answer as being that at one time or another they both played county cricket for Somerset. What a rubbish answer!!

Re: Cricket

Good to see a contest & some grit return to Test Cricket.Australia's in a sound but not yet secure position.Need to bat at least half of today to feel comfortable.Lead then would around 400 but more importantly the South Africans will have been in the field over a day & a half. Not easy to bat after such a stint in the field. 1st session obviously crucial.Kallis back next game so if the tourists can,at least avoid defeat, while landing a few blows of their own ,the heat could well be on Australia, coming into Boxing Day,particularly considering the position below.

Langer's done a hammy & won't play in Melbourne.May miss Sydney too.Shift Hussey to opener & restore Clarke,on the strength of one innings or leave Hussey as is & elevate Jacques from Shield ranks (another ton yesterday in ING cup) ? Symonds/Bracken/MacGill debate re team balance will be further clouded by Gilchrist's batting woes.

Need to put aside thoughts of next year's Ashes tilt & play what's currently in front of us .

Re: Cricket

S.A let Australia off the hook yesterday. We look the goods now.

I didn't read the news leading up to the game. What's wrong with Kallis?

BTW am i the only one in Australia who thinks Warne's record breaking wicket wasn't out.I can't believe some of the favourable LBW decisions he gets. Some of the Australian commentators are disgrace with their bias IMO.They didn't even question it.Yet when Ponting get's hit on the toe by a yorker ,plumb LBW, Richie spends the next 5 minutes telling us he was 2cm outside the line. :rofl

Re: Cricket

Tennis elbow, same as Tendulkar. Like Tendulkar, he also uses a ridiculously large bat that weighs the same as the leg of a billiard table.

Re: Cricket

Ah cheers ready.Do they expect him to play inn the Melbourne test?

Re: Cricket

Good question. Haven't heard anything but Tendulkar's was a long-running now-he's-cured-now-he's-crocked-again saga so he'd be 50/50 at best.

Spot on again evo. Shocking decision.

Re: Cricket

Brad Hodge maiden Test century. :clap

Heard on radio this morning if he got it he'd be the first Victorian to make a Test ton for eight years.

Yeah the first Victorian since that South Australian M.Elliot. Well done Hodgey, hope this gives you the confidence to go on with it as a regular test player. Take a leaf out of Hodge's book Hayden, and play with style rather than arrogance. Can't believe the arrogant shot he went out on 4 balls before tea.

Re: Cricket

Dropped catch, not sure who was dropped... Listening on radio.... Gilchrist

NEXT BALL 4 runs.... :)

Dang.... Gilly out.

C'mon I am waiting for Hodgy to get his 150..... only two runs to go....

Re: Cricket

Hodge 203 not out. (and he's a victorian)

noticed the word hummel on sth africa's uniform hope it's better quality then

Punter batted for too long MightyBoy.

Due to mb's enforced 2 week layoff from PRE, I'll answer on his behalf.

evo, Good post, well said and you know the rest.

Re: Cricket

England lose the fourth ODI in Rawalpindi and Pakistan have an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the series with one match to play.

Meanwhile in Ahmedabad, India -- leading 1-0 in the series -- are in a strong position in the Third Test against Sri Lanka. Harbhajan Singh's 4/24 put the tourists in trouble at 131/5 in response to India's 398 at stumps on day two. The Indian innings was anchored by a century from the contemporary batsman I love to watch more than any other: Very Very Special Laxman.

Re: Cricket

Ponting misread the bad light siruation too

The umpires were confering after nearly every over

He should have found out the situation and brought on another spinner

Not continue to bowl Lee ???
