Slightly non cricket related. ....... those e cigarettes, the type no doubt some of the anti vax crowd suck into their precious bodies..... are you allowed to use them at sporting events?
This is the 3rd test I've seen some dude/hipster type kicking back and choofing along in the crowd without a care in the world.

Not much sympathy for Harris, he faced 109 balls so plenty of opportunity to make a far better score than 38.

And at home, too.
It's a huge win the significance of which cannot be understated.
Put it in to context ... Sri Lanka have been playing Test Cricket for 40 years and still have not won a Test in Australia, and only two in New Zealand.
Despite all the carry on, I still don't think New Zealand are all that good. They just seem to be able to punch above their weight when it matters most.

Bloody ordinary cricketer. Got a useless hop n shuffle as the bowlers come in, cramps himself up n then bugger all footwork thereafter. Plays all of two attacking strokes, leg side balls get a tickle squarish n backward, short n wide of off get a cut n everything else he just dangles the bat n hopes. Even the Poms are smart enough to work out where to field n starve him of runs, then they just wait for the inevitable dangled edge.

Harris scratching around, 12 runs from 50 balls. I’ve watched him play for Victoria and he seems a different player.
Playing for your career does that.

Hayden and Langer were very scratchy the first one or two times they played for the Aussie side (Langer at times was too aggressive) and both needed a long time to settle but when they did they became probably the best Opening combo Australia ever had and one of the very best in World Cricket.

That said I prefer another in opening apart from Harris or Khawaja.

Inglis, or Kurtis Patterson maybe.

Given there’s the chance of more rain in Soakedney, couldn’t they have started at 9 or 9 30 today ?

Test cricket is *smile* with its limitations on when they play Red.

Funny fact they spent more time off the ground yesterday when it wasn't raining than when it was.

That and slow over rates are the biggest blight on the Test game.

Well that Isa chick was complaining last night that they should have kept playing yesterday as well.

Play and pace of it isn’t the only problem cricket has either, just quietly. Few issues at the moment in the game of cricket.

You could see Broad was walking off indicating there was barely any rain last night when they came off.

Agree - No Tasmanians in the Test team ATM for starters.

Only cos Poms are so *smile*. We aren't better. Carey has been a step back both in glove work and batting.

No. We are better off without Tasmanians. We win more without them.

And there you go. Raining again in Soakedney. Could have had an extra hour in but no….

Theres no rain on the radar, it was spitting a bit, seems to have stopped and they have gone off again. Seriously??? Its been raining for about 2 mins. What a joke.

Edit - and they are now taking the covers off again, they haven't even been on for a few mins

Test cricket needs to give itself a swift sharp uppercut

Heard one of the best ideas I ever have the other day. Test match goes for 450 overs regardless of how long it takes.

Start early, finish late, play and extra day or two, whatever it takes to get 450 in.

This is what I think too. Play every game with a pink ball, if you need to play into the evening, do it. All this talk of over rates, and lost overs disappears unless the entire test is washed out. Test cricket needs to move into the 21st century, still far too antiquated in the way they approach things.

The thought occurred to me yesterday they could Play a longer day but have more substitute fielders and allow bowlers to have meaningful longer breaks off the field eg an hour.

And possibly use a pink ball after say 6pm. Anyway, just a couple of thoughts.

I suppose though teams would just bowl at a snails pace. You could still put in financial penalties though I suppose.
