I think that means that as of rd 23 there were all upgraded to the senior list ( and someone hasn't updated the website to reflect them going back to the rookie list). Or they haven't "officially" been relegated back to the rookie list.

Yes, confirmed by RFC those lists are correct for end of Rd 23. Over the coming months some of those 'upgraded rookies' may be officially upgraded for 2017 or re-rookied or even delisted....before final lists are submitted on November 30.

Delisted players become free agents and can join new clubs during any of the three NAB AFL delisted player free agency windows.
Once clubs have delisted a player, they will receive no compensation should that player be signed by a new club.

Tuesday November 1 - NAB AFL delisted player free agency period (1) begins
Tuesday November 8 - NAB AFL delisted player free agency period (1) closes

Friday November 18 - NAB AFL delisted player free agency period (2) closes
Friday, November 25 - NAB AFL Draft in Sydney.
Saturday November 26 - NAB AFL delisted player free agency period (3) begins
Sunday November 27, 2pm - NAB AFL delisted player free agency period (3) closes

Delisted players can also nominate for the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.
Monday, November 28, 4 pm - NAB AFL Pre-season and Rookie Drafts
Monday November 30, 2pm - Final AFL club list lodgement

Anyone know how many spots free on the senior list we have as it stands. I.e. how many guys can we currently draft/sign...

i think we're 5 off (Vickery, Chaplin, McBean, Deledio & McKenzie) Three back on (Prestia, Nankervis & Caddy), so 2 vacancies pending rookie upgrades.
Imagine there are some delistings still to come....

We currently have 37 players on the primary list. Teams must have a minimum of 38 and a maximum of 40. So we don't have to delist anyone else, but I expect we will. Butler, Lambert, Moore all out of contract and all in the firing line.

Why do you think its bureaucratic? I think its flexible. We currently have 36 players on the senior list and can therefore take 4 in the ND. I highly doubt we will take more than that. If we take a DFA (maybe Richards) then we will probably delist 1 more, but IMO we delist any more AFTER the ND. This gives us greatest flexibility for list composition. Whilst people want to just cut everyone, we cannot have a list with a massive amount of late picks, they are so high risk. If we take them in the ND then we also have to give them 2 years.

Personally I would only delist another at this point if we get a DFA. If we don't then we go with 4 spots and then decide who gets delisted after based on list composition. I'm happy with that approach.
