Changes V Dees

I would rest Prestia if he is sore. We will need him against our fellow bottom four teams the Suns and Eagles the following two weeks.
Lose either of those games and we are done and might as well roll the shutters up.

Gawn may or not play, but either way it does not matter.
I'm sure the Dees are of he opinion that can win with one hand tied behind their backs.
Just maybe, just perhaps, we could spring a surprise and actually win this game.
I know not likely with our injuries and kids playing, but hope springs eternal.

Watched a couple of 2018 games the other night and to be honest the ONLY major difference i can see from the way we were playing then to now is our off the ball movement and hunger to run. Our kicking was just as bad as it is now. Handballing the same. Difference was our running. We didn't stop running with or without the ball. That always gave us options when defending and attacking.
We also had much more speed around the ground. If we raise our appetite for the contest and get some fresh legs into the side then the team is capable of doing anything as we saw for a qtr in the Doggies game and Swans.
By the way how we let Butler leave and kept George is mind boggling. Was such a superior player to George. People also forget Caddy. He was such a crucial player to our system. Strong, Smart and kicked important goals. Don't think we have ever replaced him. Cumbo probably the closest fit.
And that's been my biggest concern over the last couple of years......the pure and utter desperation and desire to do what ever is possible is gone or at the very least, missing. Is it the concern for putting the body on the line due lack of depth and injury........or are the boots full?

Lot of negativity and I understand why but if we get belted and are never in the game that would be a change from recent history. Despite how badly we have played at times our record since the start of 2022 is still one of staying in games. In fact the Collingwood and Swans games this year are the only ones in the last 28 since the start of 2022 that we haven't been in front in the 2nd half and even then we were very close in those two.

If we get belted it may be a watershed moment for us but our recent history is one of playing enough good footy at times to be still in games.

I don't expect us to win but it wouldn't surprise me if we are well in the match for a decent period.

Like others I am please to see Bolton named on the ball. I posted earlier in the week that I would love to see Bolton and Dusty go head to head with Petracca and Oliver in the middle.

I'm concerned with our injured, suspended and lack of cohesion (kids and new recruits in the 22), we're at risk of a 10 goal hiding.
Hopefully Dimma has shaken the place up a bit, so we come out with a few new tricks.

Hopefully our boys keep the ball low into the forward line and let our small forwards do the work. No bombing this week
Perhaps against a backline with May and Lever etc, our best bet is to go the chaos ball like a few years ago. Trouble is we no longer seem to have the cattle for that approach. Hopefully big games from Jack and Noah C can give us a chance.

Ling has come out and reckons we will ambush the dees - out line in the sand game, nothing to lose and can’t afford to lose. Says we have to many quality players to keep losing and soon or later it will click, we have shown signs during the early rounds of what we can do, big stage Monday night - the tigers will own the G.

glad he believes it, I will wait and see.

Surely he jests.
Then again maybe he will proved to be right, who knows in today's scenario.
Doubt he has taken the umpires into account though.

I think Ling is correct. if we are a chance this year we need to take it up to Dees. Line in the sand brutal head over the ball footy. Run Run and run some more.

I think we are still too inexperienced to compete with Melbourne. We have Miller, Cumberland, Mansell, Young, Ryan, MJ and Juddy all under 25 games played. They only have Chandler, McVee and Van Rooyen. It is still too many against a top team. I think four is the tipping point. Anymore that that makes it very difficult. I hope I am wrong but I am expecting a 10 goal plus margin. I reckon Gawn and Grundy will really open up Sampson/Miller in the ruck.

Gawn didn’t look right to me in the training footage they showed yesterday. Big strapping on the knee…seemed to have a bit of a hipsy gait going. Reckon Pooncebourne might be going a bit early with him.

I can still seee Fatty Petracca, Bluey, Fritsch, Langdon and Brayshaw cutting us to bits and May and Lever racking up 20 intercept marks between them whilst Rivers and Petty mind our key forwards.

They are mad risking Gawn IMO, in a game that they should know they can win with Grundy one out.

Theyve had our measure for the last few seasons yet we are still in their heads if they are racing Maxxy back a week or 2 early.

I can’t see how M Rioli gets selected in this team on form. It’s pressure skills and not much else at the moment.

He’s been ordinary at AFL level, dropped to the VFL against the Bulldogs and was poor (I watched it first hand) & barely average when he came on last week. From my perspective, Monday night is it for him. If he plays poorly, then he should have an extended spell at VFL level & concentrate on getting & using the ball, rather than just defensive acts.

I’d have been far more inclined to persevere with Sonsie that M. Rioli.

Sonz might be the sub I'd be guessing is he first emergency?

Im assuming the plan will be Cotchin plays 2 1/2 quarters then gets subbed for Sonz.
