Brandon Ellis

One of my favourites who is exceeding what a lot of people thought he could put out at draft time.

Over the last five weeks getting 28 touches a week & 7 marks. Outstanding numbers and showing signs of making the leap. But....is a complete one way footballer, looks spent when we don't have the ball, shuffles the entire time, turnover comes and he is like Usain Bolt coming out of the blocks.
Averages 2 tackls and 1.3 1%'ers. Just not interested in working both ways. This must change.

And it's not the spot or the role. Tom Rockliff averages 9 tackles a week as attacking onballers. Brent Stanton gets almost 4, Jack Macrae gets almost 4. It's a mindset and right now Brandon doesn't have it and only works hard one the ball is in his area and he can get a touch. Offensively he will overlap run to create and do the unselfish running to open up the space but once we don't have the ball, it's one effort. And that's it. Must change.

Part of the problem is that Brandon is surrounded by plenty of other players who also don't do these things. He's still only in his 3rd year, needs an example to follow.

Agree with everything, I think he's a ripper. But I think Stanton (who Brando should be modelling his game on imo) exposed him on the weekend.

Ellis got plenty of the ball, but was well beaten going the other way. Stanton just worked harder around the ground. A lesson there for Brandon for the future.

ELLIS WAS BROUGHT IN FOR HIS BOOMING KICK. HAS ANYONE SEEN IT?

Saw a couple against Carlton that I had to rewind several times cause they were amazing.

Yep, fantastic kick on the kid.
Haven't seen him snap many goals like he did last year. :(

Not many of our players are doing what they did last year.

i think Ellis is another on the list being mismanaged and its messing with him.

I have noticed that he only runs one way. Does not run hard enough when we dont have the ball and will not tackle. He must model his game on Shaun Grigg. I thought the club should have dropped him a couple of weeks ago. I cant believe his high disposal count by the end of the game because he does go missing alot in games.

This guy is the player on the list who annoys me the most. Obviously a talented player who absolutely runs one way and has no defensive side. Annoys the hell out of me when he won't man up, guards useless space, forever caught in no man's land between players and a hopeless tackler. All from a suposedly elite runner.
If he was at the Swans he'd be in the seconds until he learnt a proper work ethic. Instead at Richmond he fits in with Grigg and the others who do the same.

Exactly. When he was free to roam the HFL he was so dangerous. It's as he has been told not to go near the forward lline this year.
Very good kid.

I agree with calls that Brandon doesn't work hard enough the other way. And I don't think he's attacking enough with the ball.

That said, he's a young player with a bright future. His weaknesses don't stand out because we've got a dozen who don't run hard the other way. Maybe more.

The coach is a pamperer. Standards? Non-negotiables? The coach is an emotional blanc mange.

There is no such thing as a complacent player*, only a complacent coach.

*Complacent players are in the Magoos.

Five tackles on Sunday. So we know it's not a ability thing or a positional thing or a role he is playing.

It's if he wants to, he can. That's a attitude thing.

Should be blasted to high heavens and told this is the standard, five tackles isn't a good day. It's what's required.

5 tackles. Quite frankly shoulda been 10. Was pack watching a few times. Anyway, he's not going anywhere.

Problem seems to be that far too many Richmond players are fine with doing what's required, but don't want to do more and they get surprised when the opposition do.

Very good mark as we know, good skills, hard runner but one thing that annoyed me was on at least 3 occasions he didn't commit to the contest and all 3 times north took the ball away, if he can add a bit of hardness to his game he'll be a ripper but was extremely frustrated with some of his not wanting to commit in a crash bang win at all costs 'the ball'...He hesitated in those situations by memory all in the 3rd qtr....

Exactly AstuteTiger

Has the skills but seems to go one way only. If he can work both ways when we dont have the ball and add some hardness to the contest will only be a better player. Does he want to be a better player?

I think he does but adding a hard edge well they "coaches" just need to work with him on it....same can be said for a few other players who have the same problem...

this bloke is weird. he has skill no doubt but something about him this year is annoying me. today he kicked straight to a Dockers player and Ballantyne ended up with it and goaled. the Ellis chase, even after a shocking blunder, was a jog. he also racks up the numbers, but is largely ineffective.

needs a spell, was recruited for run and booming kick... all I see is missed handbells missed tackles and clanger kicks
