Brandon Ellis

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Leysy will put his hand up. Was OK with his selection but not enamoured. Was plumping for Devon Smith.

Is fast turning into far more than leysy thought he would. Role player off half-back leysy said. Heath Shaw at very best leysy said.

The kid has done what everyone at 180cms & lacks a turn of pace has done. Worked his damn arse off to get fitter than anyone else. It shows. (Matt McDonough take note).

Left everyone in his trail today, combine that with his overhead ability & footskills & he is a 250 gamer. Just needs to get a bit cleaner in tight below his knees and will be elite.

Also kudos to Scoop who was all over this kid well before draft time. Leysy dips his lid.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

We finally have the 10 midfielders they say you need to rotate to go the next step,

Cotchin,
Delidio,
Martin,
Foley,
Edwards,
Jackson,
Ellis,
Vlastuin,
Grigg,
Tuck,
Conca

That's 11. Bit of depth to

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I thought last week was his breakout game.

How wrong I was.

19 years old. Just an incredible performance.

FJ will be sitting back in his chair this evening with a glass of red and a content smile on his face.

Hope he isn't. No time for that. Should be studying tape of our next young gun.

Could well end up one of the top three from his draft, which, admittedly, could be weak.

Then he'd think about the 2009 draft and who he passed on to get Griffiths and skull the rest of the bottle to numb the pain

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Good Effort. The next 3 games will confirm whether that form holds up.
He has just smacked the ponies in the country but there is a giant target on his back now and he's heading to the city to take on a decent field.

Something to be aware of. Because Melbourne are pooh they had an extra mid or two playing back helping clog space so there was ridiculous latitude for all our defensive mid/wing/half backs.

The next 3 coaches don't have to worry about that so space in general will be tighter and it wil be interesting to see if Hird, Worsfold etc. actually worn his opponents to play tighter. Looking forward to judging his performances over the next month as I just have little admiration for both Port and Melbourne.

Yes, very important not to get carried away, some major challenges over the next few weeks, let's just hope that Brandy rises to the top.

Even if he doesn't, he's only 19 and inconsistency is just part and parcel of an afl player at that age.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

He plays his 30th game on the weekend. I always think that, for the better players, 30 games is about what they require to become consistent players and cement a senior spot.

Brandon has been text-book so far.

Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked with his form but just trying to keep a lid on some of the superlatives. Much like the Vlastuin thread, it's a bit early to be labelling these guys the best from the draft, I think we all know how the hype can be a double edged sword.

Yeah, he just needs one sub 20 possesion game for the ferals to jump in claiming we passed up Ben & Jerry's Jerry Garcia and instead went with Paul's Vanilla.

I'm most happy for Ellis's old man. Despite the cancer worked hard to get Ellis to pick up footy again. Young Ellis has done his old man very proud.

Thanks pal. Nice to get one right. I still see a truck load of Jarred McVeigh in him still.

You are right about his work below his knees, I always thought he was super clean but he has had the fumbles of late. Maybe due to getting used to playing a midfield role. But the sky is the limit. He worked his tail off yesterday, runs a lot like Dane Swan. Not super quick over a short distance but a solid sustained burst that drops people off. Showing huge signs for a teenager. We need another player like Ellis but with elite pace and finishing.

Just nice to see some young mids coming through.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Watching him live it seemed like he was absolutely everywhere.

Shoiuld be part of the regular midfield rotation I reckon.

What with Rasputin and Conca as well, really happy the way our midfield depth is shaping up.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Most exciting thing for me is that while Lids, Cotch and Martin cop all the attention we have Ellis and Vlas getting off the leash. If Concs can get back quickly to where he was and Foley can get back to 90% of what he once was we'll be very hard to cover.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Hadn't been much of a fan to date, could not see why all the Ellis love around here. But I dips my lid, has played very, very well the past two weeks kudos to him.

As a couple of others have mentioned he now has a target on his back and will be very interested in how he'll handle the extra attention he will start to receive.

Congrats Brandon

That's the thing. Opposition coaches now need to worry about yet another gun Richmond midfielder.
Who do they tag now?
Can't tag em all.
Welcome Brandon Ellis :clap

Is he a genuine midfielder. 90% of his possessions were uncontested
