I agree with David King's comments about Ellis. He isn't sold on him yet as a 1st round pick. He believes that normally a 1st rounder has a certain attribute or skill that makes them standout. At the moment I don't see anything special about him either. Certainly not writing him off, he has had a solid 1st year but nothing to make you excited. Doesn't have a great kick, not particularly explosive, not a marking player etc. I hope over the next 12 months, his special attributes that can set apart the "league players" and the good players, shows soon.

I do agree, however the only thing caddy is doing is kicking more goals. I see ellis as a sidebottom type midfielder when he develops more. Hes only *smile* 18 years old! Once he gets a bigger tank and gets more used to AFL footy hell be a gun.

bearing in mind he was pick 15 not pick 5. i reckon there would be a hell of a lot of mid teen picks who dont have that 'special' attribute'.
his play so far has been worthy of pick 15 and there is no reason he cant continue to improve to be a good footballer.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I must be missing something that the other sceptic's are seeing.Kid shows no fear, has a lovely kick on either side and know's how to find the footy.

A bit harsh on the kid i feel.

What a load of crap.

I think that Ellis has been solid and I can see him being a tank in a few years with a deadly kick. He has been very good for a rookie and will improve in time.

Considering the amount of cream taken by GWS as a result of the compromised draft perhaps he may not have the little bit of X factor that usually defines first round picks.
From Brandons performances so far this year I've got a feeling we may have picked up a kid who may well become one of those ultra reliable hard at it honest cattle dogs. May not tear many games apart but one of those who will just churn out 200 games of consistent backbone of the side footy offering the platform for the whizzbangs to launch from.

These types of comments are why David King is in the media and not coaching, NFI

Yep the "Tyon Edwards" type.

I've also noticed Eddie Everywhere doesn't miss an opportunity to applaud Brandon, Pies must have been pretty keen on him or Eddy friendly with the Ellis family? Lot luv there thou.

The skill Ellis has is he can play football. He is a natural footballer.

And we need more.

Noticed that too. Every game McGuire calls a Richmond game he talks of putting Ellis "in your little black book because he is going to be a beauty".

And where would Eduardo get his info on the young players? From his best in the industry Recruiting team lead by Derek Hine. It's a good sign.

sorry mate totally disagree, he is a very good kick i dont panic when the ball is in his hands, has improved in that area of quick of the mark and is sound overhead....Bahahaha david king saying he's not a 1st rounder how silly compare to some others and he's doing better than fine...
Book mark it now he is going to be a beauty....

If Ellis was at collingwood playing like he is Richmond he would be touted a very good pick and we would all be saying gee the pies know how to pick players...

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Actually he does have a great kick.
I remember watching his draft highlights package and that's what stood out .His pinpoint passing.
He still is only 18!!!!

The bloke's gonna be a great player for us.
Loving watching his progress and the kids all heart.

If Edwards played in victoria he would have lauded as a star. That guy was a great kick, great mark and could find the footy anywhere on the field. If Ellis ends up being anywhere near as good as Edwards then we are laughing!

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Pleasingly Ellis has continued to perform well as the season has gone on. .
