Thought his old man was a North supporter?

Old man was a Pies supporter but Brandon was a Roos supporter (who bagged richmond wth all the usual sterotypes).

Was taken down to the club as a kid and knew the players growing up.

??? didnt he come on bout the 10 min mark of the last qtr in last weeks game, u know sitting on the bench for 3 and a bit qtrs u can be excused for not racking up 10+ disposals, think he had 3.....

Agreed, probably being a bit harsh on the young fella, very tough to make an impact that late in the game, but if you're not going to make any impact, you're wasted as a sub, I think, whether you come on at the ten minute mark of the first quarter (say, if there's an injury) or the ten m. mark of the last.

Just think he really made a point of getting involved this time, from the get go, and that he played with some confidence, as opposed to the sydney game where he looked a bit unsure and edgy.

He's learning quick, and as i said, i have no concerns that he's a keeper.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Licking the lips of what next year will bring with Ellis and another preseason under the belt.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Just watched a bit of the replay on Fox footy. It's just a small thing but when the heat was really on in the last he got a handpass in the back half that he ran onto with pace but it was down at his shoelaces. He didn't break stride and his hands were so clean when he took possession. Little things like that show that this kid actually has some real quality.

My view is that he is going to be an inside midfielder. He has the body type and nice clean hands.

Very happy with Brandon.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Yep i hear ya Sinful noticed that he has very sure hands, maybe his lack of a yard may better suit him long term as an inside mid

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I would include him in some of the centre square rotations this week. He will learn from it.

Hmm, not so sure about the bolded.

He does have clean hands but as a junior his best attribute was his elite kicking. Negating that a bit if he's always in the packs as an inside mid and constantly under pressure hacking it forward. He got drafted off his play from HB. That's not to say he can't become a quality midfielder but I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I Like this kid more then Conca, needs to loose some puppy fat and I see him moving into the middle!

He has already been moved off halfback. When Dea came in for the Eagles game he started playing as a mid.
I don't equate inside mids with just hacking the ball forward , maybe mid who can play inside is a better description

like him but needs to get stronger so he doesn't let blokes break his tackles.
what a revelation about a first year player :p
I think he's a very good pick and is a big part of our future.

I think he will end up a mid. I have been a massive wrap for him before last years draft and the thing that I really liked was his ability to one touch everything. So clean below his knees and knows what he is going to do before he gets it. Haven’t seen him really use his kicking skills over distance yet, he is playing it safe. And that’s fine. But a time will come when he rips out a long kick and shock a lot of people. Not unlike Bastinac in some aspects. But Saturday was the hottest the football has been all year. And he looked at home.

Me too, loves to make things happen and some of his quick release handballs opened the game for us on Sat night. Wouldn't mind the coaches playing him as a tagger kind of like how the eagles used Scott Selwood early on.

Noticed this. I thought the plan was to rest him up for this game, and to inject him into the game when we needed some run and pin-point delivery late in the game, however Grimes going down mean't we didn't have the luxury of exploiting this strategy. Shame, because it could have been a match winning move.

Still, good contributor when he came on

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

need games into him. stays. one of few who can kick and doesn't fumble.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Really like the kid. Has come in and instantly looks at home not unlike Bachelor last year. Think we have found a gem here and will play HBF/Wing/ Midfield for the next 10 years
