Even when I saw Nathan Jones as a junior he looked like a modern Richmond player to me. Still does. Scrappy and dumb. I still can't believe we didn't take him.

Yep I had to laugh at a recent caller to SEN who suggested that Jones was bordering on elite, his disposal is poor.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Dont think there would be many teams that wouldnt play Jones in their best 22. Alot of that "scrap" is due to a poor side he plays in. He is still quite young (23 i think) so he has scope for some more improvement.

That being said Brandon Ellis any day of the week.

Yeah has improved a fair bit in the last year after treading water for a while.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I know he had limited game time but this kid didnt hold back when coming onto the ground. Yes a bit of the sting had gone out of the game but he matched it - no doubt there. His work in close was great. Didnt panic.

10 disposals - 8 of them contested at 80% efficiency - no bad for a kid playing his 8th game in front of 81,000.

The kid has a future.

Yeah, I actually thought Ellis looked like he was moving quicker last night. Had some zip about him.

But not once this year have I thought he looked out of place. Last night he looked like the second year player and Conca looked like the rookie.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

has clean quick hands which is one of the most vital ingredients imo. looked good when he came on. plays a full game next week and would look to give him midfield time.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

think we should look to play him in a similar role to grigg - as a link man / outside mid delivering to our forwards. has a massive tank and great kicking skills.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Wonder if he could take kings spot as a small foward pocket with runs in the mid ! Great kick ,zippy , smart

Do you say Zippy???

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I'd play him as a tagger on the outside mid types. Good tank, good defensively, should be able to hurt the opposition offensively. Perhaps he would have been a good match-up for Stanton rather than Jackson?

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Looks so clean with his hands. I would play him in the centre square or on a wing as part of the rotations.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Was really interesting watching how Ellis approached coming on as the sub this week, as opposed to last week.

Thought last week he ran around a bit like a chook with its head cut off and that he struggled to make any kind of meaningful impact.

Dimma, or one of the other coaches, obviously had a word with him and told him to take the game on, get the ball, back himself and really get involved.

His pace really was an injection that helped lift us, thought his composure was very impressive and that he made some good decisions in tight situations.

Really think we've got a quality young, quick, skillful and aggressive kid here and look forward to watching him develop into a quality half-back flanker swinging in through the mid-field.

On another unrelated note, also stoked to see Griffiths and Connors named in Coburg's best on the weekend.

Go Tiges!

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

l was chatting with Brandon's Dad last week, he was saying what a great team spirit there is at the club and after following the pies all his life is now a tiger supporter

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Great Disposal of the ball by hand or foot.Wouldn,t say he,s quick,Good comparison would be a Sam Mitchell type but with a lethal kick.
