Brandon Ellis

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Looks like I'll be alone on this, but was a touch disappointed in his game today. Got the ball a few times where I thought he could've been more damaging...not as quick or classy as I'd hoped. Not really a knock, looks like being a solid enough player.

We cant expect elite talent from pick 15, but I feel the same. He wasnt helped out by some silly handballs when he was staitonary but I definately love his poise for a junior.

Fair comment. Lacks that quick yard of pace. Perhaps a Sam Mitchell type should be his role model.

Pretty solid performance to date however from a first year player.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Something about him says Chappy to me. It's a big call and he's not screaming "matchwinner" yet but Chappy wasn't even bald at 18. He's definitely a footballer and they're always handy.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Leysy was a knocker on his high wraps at draft time last year & still think he does have limitations with his ceiling as a player.

But in that draft at that pick not sure we could have done much better. Good pick.

Whilst not a game-breaker will be a good solid soldier who wont let you down for years to come & cant argue with that.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Would be interesting if we didn't make that trade and downgraded that pick would we've picked Devon Smith? Geez he had was great vs Carlton and looks a gamebreaking talent. Can't do much about it now though. Happy with Ellis.

Yeah he's slipped in well. Pretty sure with the ball. Link handballing his best strength that I have seen so far.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Its funny how people have Ellis's career mapped out after 6 games.

I hear that, thought a similar thing last week as well. However I wasn't convinced on Conca early either and I've changed my mind on him.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Was hsocked when I saw his number of possessions when I got home, thought he had a lot more than they gave him. Was hte opposite for Deledio for mine, I get this wrong a lot being at the game. Thought he was super!!!!

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Would like Ellis to have a rest for a game or two just to freshen up. Bring in someone such as Arnott for a taste of Afl on the wing.

We got Morris and Ellis essentially.

unlike you to look for the negative Barnzy. ;D

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I'd only rest Ellis if he was sore at this stage. Very talented footballer and pretty handy pick at 15.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Even when I saw Nathan Jones as a junior he looked like a modern Richmond player to me. Still does. Scrappy and dumb. I still can't believe we didn't take him.

When I see Brandon in the yellow and black he looks out of place to me. He looks like an Adelaide player. (None of that Port Adelaide girlfriend pace.) Oldskool. Very clean skills and works for a living.

Ellis is about a new Richmond where football smarts, work ethic and clean, quick skills are paramount.

A couple more Ellis types every year and we're on the path to sustained success.

And doesn't Dimma show some faith in him? Gives him a major test on a star every other week. What was that line about how he has to learn that the team wants the ball in his hands? Huge raps on an 18yo.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

All those years of below par recruiting and all of a sudden the cream gets gobbled up by new franchises and we start finding solid citizens. Go figure.
