Well said Sintiger, but can I add that that there is quick of foot and quick of mind, and I think Ellis' mind is certainly quicker than his feet, which I hope in time can compensate for his lack of leg speed.
yeah i hope so too.

Someone who follows the juniors may be able to give some stats on how he tested for pace.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

I was really impressed with Ellis today, hardly made a mistake despite fierce pressure. A definite keeper for mine.

He and Morris have both been good pickups. Ellis I think will be special. Got an old head on young shoulders and the skill to match it.

Got caught out a couple times ball watching the crumbs. His man split to one side he went the other. Can’t do that.

But he is so composed with the ball in tight. And makes the right decision. A beauty.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Looks very comfortable at the top level. Enjoyed his overlapping runs today and seems to read the play pretty well for an inexperienced player

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

He's a good solid player, I'd like another 3 from this years draft.

Been a real find this lad. Not many 18yos come into senior footy with as much composure. A quick learner. And he can get into the game.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

His ball drop is truly the worst ive seen yet he's a good kick. ;D

I guess Josh Kennedy's run up works for him.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Dean Limbach was the last player we got out of West Coburg, second time lucky, he played his best game so far.

I thought the same thing when I first saw his TAC highlights. It's a double-handed drop, rather than the normal one-handed guide. It's unusual, but not always bad. It didn't work too well for Darren Gaspar, but Nathan Brown went OK with it.
Really liked Ellis' game today. Won some critical contests, tackled fiercely and made some quick, creative decisions.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Will be good to see how he would go with a run through the midfield when he gets his fitness up.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Great game otherwise. Morris got caught once doing it as well.

Give him Jackson's spot. And bring Arnott or Webberley into the side.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

ellis and morris are coming along nicely. more than happy with them both.

Nothing wrong wth his fitness Checky, he'd outrun nearly everyone on our list bar White and Edwards I'd say.

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Bittersweet for Ellis imo.

He'd be dissapointed in losing, but happy with his own performance and so he should be.Getting better week by week. We've got a good one here!

Re: Welcome Brandon Ellis

Yep like the look of this kid, will impress more when his confidence builds and he starts to use the footy by foot more.

maybe running laps but not football fitness.
Can't expect a first year kid to be midfield fit yet anyway so it's not a blight on him.

This kid seems to be finding his way at senior level, but I do worry about one aspect of his game.

His attack on the footy is ferocious, but he tends to stay on his feet too much. I know that sounds weird, but in each game so far, I have seen him get his legs taken out from under him by a player diving on the ball. Against the Dees it happened to him a couple of times, once virtually head on.

I trust our coaches are working with him about how to protect himself, because I can see him getting a badly broken leg if this continues.

For those who didn't understand my concern expressed in this post, watch what happened to Gary Rohan on the weekend.
