Andrew 'Mini' McQualter

Keen eye on selection integrity this week. Has he got it in him to make the tough calls and what’s best for teams season or is he to soft.

It's a real tricky one. He puts his hand up to be caretaker for half a season, knowing that if someone else gets the head coach gig he's out of a place he's probably loved working at for several years.

In many ways its a sacrificial act and I hope fans appreciate it.
I tell you what he'll be highly sort after as an assistant (at minimum) if we let him go.

Taranto Hopper Prestia Martin Bolton Cotchin. No excuses for us conceding so many I50s. That’s on the players. Mini can’t win the ball for them.
Ok, so if it’s currently on the players, at which point does the blame also fall upon the coach?

Genuine question.

And the answer will be we did.
Young, Coulthard, Banks Bauer debuted.
Ryan Clarke Miller Mansell MRJ all played chunks of the season

Hugo & Ross played more than expected

Against 2 of the top 4 we've conceded 265 points and 139 I50s.

Not good.
Yep… a lot of people upset with our forward line. I thought we did well to kick almost 100 points against Melbourne... they usually only concede around 60. In the second half we lost it in the midfield and couldn’t transition from our backline. Thought Soldo did well in the first half, but Gawn responded well to a half time bake from his coach, dominated and gave the Dees first use, and Soldo didn’t have the conditioning… he’s played 17 games in 3 seasons.… and no backline is going to weather 70+ inside 50s.

Got pumped in the midfield essentially with an injury free midfield, while Melbourne had Oliver & Sparrow out. Gawn obviously took over in the second half which didn't help.

Word on street is Mini a certainty - 3years and HH from GWS

Got no doubt Mini will be our coach in 2024 , right decision? No idea , won’t know for ages .

Imho he had us play our best footy of the year on the weekend , though I don’t like our forward set up , it shows Mini is prepared to think outside the square and the fact he has a winning percentage has to be a good thing

I agree - think its just about a certainty he will be the new coach

If he is and we have gone through the process, then so be it.

If it does happen, I hope Mini is given the opportunity to assemble a team around him. New assistants with fresh ideas, new development team, new strength and conditioning team. This would hopefully provide an element of refresh and newness to ensure the players don't turn up to pre season with he same old, same old mentality.

When we win. Haven't you been reading this thread? When we win it's because of Mini doing amazing things in the coaches box, like playing players in position and subbing off a bloke who hasn't touched the footy for a bloke that does.

When we lose its because the players aren't up to it.

"Simples" as Mr Alexander would say.

By the way this narrative will change a 180 degrees if he does get the job. The honeymoon will be well and truly over and suddenly everything will be McQualters fault.
