2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

Even SA no longer care for Test Cricket. The BBL was a novelty that IMO they rammed down our throats & has long ago worn off. training reports are now the highlight of the summer
BBL and 20/20 plateaued 5 -6 years ago.

Then they got greedy and extended the season of it and now Iit seems somewhat irrelevant. Forcce feeding the TV public Womens 20 / 20 (which no one gives a stuff about) has expediated this fatigue.

Used to watch every match as it was free time filler on TV.

Hit and Giggle I mused it would kill cricket off and the interest of the masses once the novelty wore off, even moreso once Test Stars all retired early and went for the Big Bucks and it has pretty much done exactly that.

Going off topic slightly who do you all think is the better player, Lefau or Mutaz El Nour. I didn’t watch too many VFL games but from what I saw Mutaz showed a lot more than Lefau. What are the deficiencies or skill sets that you think makes one better than the other. Why did our recruiting department lean towards Lefau ?
Good question , I think with brown and a couple of others we have that intercept defender covered , lefau offers grunt that perhaps has been eroded in our set up in recent seasons

We are so bored over summer now we are even listening to what Kane Cornes has to say
That's going a bit far for me.
I follow the NFL during summer.
The timing fits perfectly, starts just after the AFL GF and the Superbowl is just before start of AFL praccies.
You can get 6 games a week if you can get ESPN and 7mate.
This week is the start of their play-offs (ie finals)

Brilliant as ever mate. Thank you.
Just wondering how Kaleb Smith is looking?

I were nearly going to put a line in my training report on Kaleb but decided to save it till I see a bit more of it. He did a double baulk off half back and then centred it with pinpoint accuracy. I thought ok that It is what I saw in his first and only intra-club last year so you are right to be interested in him @Tigers of Old 👍

I think we have reason to be positive with some of the pre season results.

Seth Campbell finishing 3rd in the 2km is phenomenal. This is a kid in his 2nd pre season. A forward too BTW. If he can cover ground too, I have a really.good feeling about this kid.

Kaleb Smith's 2km is positive as has been Caesar's observations. Add this to how he dealt with the welcome video to the new draftees, I also have a great feeling about him.

Cumbo has shown he belongs at AFL level and his 2km results tell me he needs to play the high half forward role.

Fridge finishing 2nd in the 2km is also positive. He needs to step up in the midfield and from a leadership perspective and this is a great start. We need him to be our next Chimp (or even 60% thereof would be good)

Gibbo looks like he's back and we need him to be.

Of all that is happening in the pre season this is the sort of stuff that interests me most.
We have a couple of new draftees but the reality is that two of the 2022 draftees we have hardly seen in Smith and Campbell and there are reasonable wraps on both.
We have the players we know can play and for whatever reason went backwards in 2023, Cumberland and Sonsie. Both are showing positive signs.
We have the 2021 crew who we hope will step up. Gibcus returning from injury but also Brown, Banks and Clarke.
The mid season draft group in Young, Coulthard, Bauer and Tresize and the potential of Samson Ryan.
There is a big list of young players and they will ultimately decide our future.
Signs are good so far but it is pre season and most clubs would be saying the same.

Balta training forward is also a big positive. If he can hold down a role as a key forward and have the support of Lynch returning successfully it would
turn us into a top 4 contender.

Agree. Prefer him down back but realistically, what star key forwards are on the market? King will likely stay at GC, JUH won't leave the Dogs, not much else around. Can go to the draft in the next few years but all young keys take time. We have plenty of backmen, so need to act now and set ourselves up for the next half a dozen years

Outstanding performance in the 2km. Especially considering he is a late December kid (if he were born 3 days later he would have been in the following year's draft).

I have a feeling that in time he will be the one to cover the Lambett role that was earmarked for Judson Clarke.

Very high hopes for this kid.

Yeah I prefer him down back as well.

He has had two iterations as a forward. The first was a failure in 2022, he didn’t seem to me to have the forward smarts. The second was late 2023 and he looked better but the jury is still out to me. I like him as a backline player because he takes intercept marks, hopefully Gibcus can take up that role

Yep, he did leak some goals throughout the season and was pretty bad with his positioning in the last few games, however he did have some fantastic games as a key back. Killed Walker in round 2. Games like that make me hope he is just training forward in place of Lynch for now. Topped the comp in intercept marks which is no mean feat. I actually thought he and Young were a good duo. Add in Gibcus and take out Grimes, that's a pretty good backline. A bit tall, but all 3 are athletic

Problem is. Our young key forward stocks are bereft if Balta plays back.

Who do we have coming through underneath Lynch?

Samson - Ruck
Koschitzke - Not a number 1 key
Bauer - Again, not a number 1
Fawcett - Will take time and history says is a long shot
Miller - Please.

Totally get why the club are training Balta as a key forward all pre-season. The prize is too big not to.
