2024 Training With The Ooze Crew

Off season is way too long. It's basically 6 months on, 6 months off. For the number 1 professional sport in the country the wait is too long. Should be 7/5 or 7.5/4.5 at least.

Problem is. Our young key forward stocks are bereft if Balta plays back.

Who do we have coming through underneath Lynch?

Samson - Ruck
Koschitzke - Not a number 1 key
Bauer - Again, not a number 1
Fawcett - Will take time and history says is a long shot
Miller - Please.

Totally get why the club are training Balta as a key forward all pre-season. The prize is too big not to.
I think most are agreeing with you, just saying that we would prefer Balta as a key back.
I totally understand why we are doing it but I would prefer that we didn’t have to.

I have not been able to identify Schofield, (there was one player hitting up hard from the forward line but I don't know if Fawcett is back training or if it was Schofield?), there was only one yesterday so if it was Fawcett either Schofield didn't train or may not have been invited back post Christmas?)
Mykelti Lefau was there yesterday and looks unbelievably fit and did pretty well in the 2km time trial for a such big unit.
Lefau only made his return to footy in June last year after doing his ACL in May 2022 so a full pre-season will give him his best chance.
Had some eye catching moments of power through the middle in the VFL late last year, (hasn't been a big ball winner and not sure of his game sense coming from a rugby background).

Having said that his last 4 games in VFL produced 64 disposals and 39 tackles o_O .

Spent 3 years at Casey Demons before being let go so what did they not see?

I am keen to see how he goes when they do some match sim.

I'll keep an eye out to see if Schofield is in fact still training.

Late Edit: It was Schofield that I saw today.

Replying to my own post, now amended, it was Schofield I saw Friday not Fawcett, (both out there today Monday).

Outstanding performance in the 2km. Especially considering he is a late December kid (if he were born 3 days later he would have been in the following year's draft).

I have a feeling that in time he will be the one to cover the Lambett role that was earmarked for Judson Clarke.

Very high hopes for this kid.

I'm excited by Seth too. Waiting to see how he goes in the match sims / pre-season but he's a very fit boy clearly, and from memory I was impressed with how he impacted the match sims / pre-season last year before he lost the rest of the year to injury. His fitness puts him in a good spot to get a forward half spot if his match work warrants it. Fitness wise seems like he could step straight into the AFL.

Impressed with some of the others in the 2km too. Its a very good scenario for us IMO, to have a number of our young kids showing their fitness in the 2km.

There's a lot of upside potential for this group in 2024 and certainly beyond that I don't think anyone outside of the club is factoring in. Its why I see 2024 as a win-win scenario for us. Either we perform a lot better than the AFL "experts" think and we make finals, showing that our youngsters can step up, or we finish low down the ladder and get a really good crack at the best talent in the draft. Either way, its good for us in the medium / long term.

FYI brothers and sisters.

Cornes isn’t the only commentator tipping the Tigers for a lowly finish in 2024, with the likes of Josh Jenkins and more also foreseeing a bottom four finish.

See it still hurts for Jenkins, 7 disposals in a grand final is pretty shithouse. We are still in their heads.

I hope Balta goes back. Gibcus KPD for starters.

2024 Lynch NO 1. and handful of players who could be NO 2. Ryan a goal a game almost this year, Improve marking; Kosi just has to kick as many as Jack R this year.

Bauer played some ok footy. Cumbo is a good mark, long kick

Any forward line with No Miller, Pickett will be an improvement.

Lynch and Kosi both virtually new to a forward line is my only concern. How long to gell

Karen Cornes probably wrote that article herself
Port great :rotfl1
The word great when applied to sports people is thrown around far too casually now. I guess great is easier to say than adequate player. I do wonder if Cornes would have made it to 300 if he had a different surname.

Easy not to like him as a commentator but Cornes was a damn good, if not great player and thoroughly deserved 300 games regardless of his surname.

Career average of 23.5 disposals across 15 seasons including seven seasons averaging 25+ disposals. Oh, and he did all that while playing predominantly as a tagger and often shutting down the oppositions best midfielder.

Never rated him, just a stopper, pure and simple. As other poster said, got by on his surname

We've got 4 years of player ratings for him from 2012.

2012 8.73
2013 11.53
2014 7.15
2015 8.34

That is basically as bad as it gets for a regular best 22 mid.

Few here recognise that Noah has the speed, attack on the ball and the marking and kicking ability to make him an outstanding prospect in our forward line.
Ideally he will play half forward.
If he plays forward all season predict a 45-55 goal year.

Agree. He may not have the footy smarts Jack did, but he’s an elite contested mark and a superb athlete so I’m sure that will hold him in good stead
