Clubs not going to trade for a player, then not select them if fit.

B Vlaustin, Young, Broad
HB Short, Balta, Baker
C: Pickett, Taranto, Ross
HF: D Rioli, Koschitzke, Clarke
F: Cumberland, Lynch, M Rioli
C: Nankervis, Martin, Bolton
Int: Prestia, Hopper, Brown, Grimes
Sub: Dow

I think by the end of the season, Grimes and Pickett will have been replaced by Sonsie and Banks. Young will be challenged by Gibcus.

Reckon Young will be ok. Grimes will be the one challenged by Gibcus (if fit). Banks can’t play anything like Grimes I don’t reckon. 6cm shorter and won’t be manning up on tall forwards week to week like Grimes has and nowhere near the speed and reach. Wing or hbf (another one) beckons for Banks. If he makes it.

I agree Rioli is best served at half back, plus if we have some med/small fwds that step up next yr he won't be needed fwd anyway. As above with our faster game style he gives us what we need down back anyway.
For three years I have been hearing "he won't be needed forward anyway"... :)

Half back is the easiest position on the ground and should be used to give kids game time and somewhere to play your fringe players. Oleg Markov is a premiership half back flanker.

You don’t see Brisbane playing Charlie Cameron at half back. If they did he'd be an 8 time AA.

In 2016 2017 a young DRioli transformed the way we played playing in the forward line. His run and carry and attacking play inspired his senior team-mates who followed his lead in this regard.

Dimmas game plan burned him out, like it has many others, but imo Daniel is a natural attacking creative small forward. His pace and tank make him even more valuable there.

Hoping Oozo sees this also.
Hear Hear! Opposing coaches used to worry about him. Now, not so much.

Yeah I think Daniel needs to stay back. If Yze wants to play a fast brand attacking through the corridor, you need pace and elite kicking skills to move through the middle. He provides that at an elite level, and is key to making this style a success IMO.

We have players like Campbell, Coulthard and Cumberland that we need to unleash together in the forward half IMO.
I would imagine DR would be the poster boy for how ooze wants us to exit D50

Yeah, apologies I can see how that was confusing. It wasn't worded well.
I don't mean Banks will play Grimes role. More I can see us bringing him in for more run and better kicking, and the team rotating players around. Eg Broad could take Grimes role for example.

There was a reason he was getting dropped and was then sent to halfback in the first place and that is he wasn’t getting a kick playing forward.
His move back has been phenomenally successful
The thing to me is that he is much better as a straight ahead player, but he isn’t alone with this trait. He gives us speed, run and a bit of dare off the backline that I am not sure anyone else can give us.
Maybe we could try him forward again but I wouldn’t be that confident of success. Depends on why his form tapered off so badly in the period before he was moved back.

No one was getting a kick in Dimmas small fwd graveyard. Times they are a changin.

AA has lost it's all of it's credibility completely, the fact we have a media personality who uses his own forums to attack or plraise certain players, depending on whether or not they play for Port Adelaide, on the selection panel needs a serious explanation.

Yep the Byrne-Jones selection two or thee years ago was the last straw. The same year Dusty pulled Jones’s pants down in a game. Gave him a bath.

Game's played and won with creative line breaking half backs opening and setting up these days. Bash, Shorty, Sausage over recent years for us. Name your poison from the oppo teams that I can barely bother thinking about, but they all try n run with the best creators they can off the half back line.

Also thinking we have a better balance with the back 7.
Talls Young Gibcus Balta Broad Grimes
A small Tall Flossy
Smalls Short Baker DRio Brown

An attacking balance is 3-1-3.
Broad is now Mr Versatile. Flossy fills the hole. Those 2 would be locked in, but the others up for debate.
Its hard to see how they all fit.

I think you’re underselling the role Daniel plays down back. He was never close to an AA calibre small forward. He was great with his pressure, but offensively he was never going to kick 40+ goals a year. He averaged less than a goal a game over his span of games up forward. Down back he can see the whole ground in front of him, and with us likely to play a more corridor brand, we need the ball in the hands of our best users. More often than not he makes the right decision coming out of the backline, then can follow up further up the ground. I think HB is perfect for him
