2024 - List Management

But is this year's draft containing the players we need?
and can we secure them.
Well according to all the junior watchers on the 2024 draft thread. There's a deep bunch of premium mids for early picks and then some quality KPP for the picks around the early 20s. Now all we need to do is build up a decent handful of early draft picks then chose the right kids and away we go.
Shouldn't be to hard now that the bloke who loved picking half back flankers is off over at Wet Coke n we've got Touche Turtle to run our draft.

Crux of the issue for me. Keep the bona fides and punt the trash.
Punt the trash n all ya get is Bin Chickens crapping everywhere. The idea is to put something slightly used n of reasonable value on E Bay to see if ya can score some decent spending money for shiny new stuff. Can't get the price ya want ya can always hang on to what you've got.

Approach needs to be aligned with the talent pool in any particular yr TM. Now I'm no expert, but one of the very best, Kinnear from Syddanee, suggests that this yrs pool runs very deep. Nuggets late and via the rookie.

Now we have a shed load of picks. Just maybe the best approach is to clear the decks and let Mr Bocce prove his worth.....?

We don’t need a team of champions. We just need a handful like Cotch,Dusty, rance, Riewoldt and Edwards, the rest of our 2017 team were good, some role players and others who, would just run and spread and had bought in to the Richmond ethos of the day. We can easily improve next year with the influx of a few top draft picks and maybe a few trades(or free agency).

Right at this very moment we have picks 1, 21, 36, 39, 41, 54, 57, 63, 68.

Baker may get us a top 20 pick. Bundling some picks up may get us another decent pick.

If getting top 10 picks is the aim then Rioli to gcs may get us one . At age 27 if its to be done then this year is it.

I still maintain Baker is as good as gone and he is out of contract which most conveniantly keep over looking. Fremantle have picks 7,12,16,25 and 61.
Anything under pick 16 and they will want something coming back their way. We don't hold the aces in this hand.

I also believe Graham will explore his options again. and if a betting man id say Dusty is gone as well.

Still firmly believe 10 changes is a minimum if rebuild is the go.

The question to be answered is clearly how much farther do we have to fall? still nowhere near bottom out yet imo.

For the loss of Baker and Rioli if we could walk away with something like

1, 6, 11, 16, 21, 25, 36. Would be a very good start to a rebuild. A few canny f/a's and the odd trade and state leaguer.
Adequate turnover of aged past it and not good enough players.
Only problem is the draft is such a lottery. On the one hand, absolutely I agree you have to have the tickets in order to potentially collect. However it doesn’t seem that long ago we had 5 top 20 picks. Didn’t work all that well. Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Pattison and Polo. Deledio was a clear tick. Turned into a tremendous player. Tambling…not so. Danny Meyer played 17 games for us. Patto was a tryer but a battler. Dean Polo’s best game for the club was his first against Essendon. By a looong way. Baker, Bolton and Rioli are all proven quality players. But they are getting older. They also won’t be there for our next tilt. Makes for an interesting time for the bean counters too. As we still have to pay 95% of the salary cap while bringing in kids who don’t get paid much and having older, more experienced players going out of cap on plenty more, as well as a couple of others like Lynch and Martin on big bucks who won’t be there for long at best. Be bloody great if we could knock it out of the park with picks. We also have the looming inclusion of Tassie that will start to impact the draft and the AFL tinkering with pick values - father/son and academy. Makes planning tough.

according to Cal Twomey's latest thinking

Bakes gone, doesn't know which WA side, for back of the envelope lets say pick 12-ish
Shai 50-50, Freo want him, he's open to going home (they have 7, 12, 16 and 25,)
Danny, we will get a big offer from GC, think he mentioned 11 and 20.

I'd hate to see Danny or Shai go, it would hurt, but sometimes footy hurts, and its good business that one goes. I'd hate to see both go, but if they both want to, it might happen.

Looks like we'll end up with at least 2, and up to 9 first round/ sub pick 25 draft picks. Thats before pick/ future pick trading.

Freo would think they are close and would pay over the odds.

Bolton and Baker would go very close to giving Freo a Flag. They will go all in.
with Rioli possibly going That could net us 5 or 6 first round picks for flankers.

It was before YouTube so Greg Miller was a bit hamstrung.

It mightn't seem that long ago to us but none of the kids we'll draft this year were even born.

Brilliant post.

We can rebuild the worst midfield in the league in the process.

6 first round draft picks is GWS/Gold Coast territory.

At a guess would be 1, 6 (GC), 7 (Freo), 10 (Haw), 12 (Freo), 20 (GC).

Pick 1 - ours
Picks 6 & 20 - Rioli
Picks 7 & 12 - Bolton
Pick 10 - from West Coast who get it from Hawks for Barrass.

If we lose them and it’s possible they all stay, or we lose 1, 2 or all 3. It will be to different clubs.

Bakes to West Coast - grew up a WC supporter and my mail is it’s WC or no-one.
Shai to Freo
Daniel to GC.

Blair Livingstone and Yze need to sit down with every senior player who owns Premiership Medals and oput the acid on them

No *smile* .........real talk time.

Look em square in the eyes and simply ask em if they want to do the hard yards or want to bail.

No BS
