2024 - List Management

I must be misremembering, in that case 2013 must be the year I was thinking about. It was in the second half of the season a year before being recognised about a year later. If that was 2013, then it was in year 6.
His breakout year was 2011 (his fourth year) when he won the most improved award, and played every game except for suspension.

For me Young is one i would have delisted. Good VFL player Borderline AFL is the best way to sum him up. Yet we place him on the list proper.
I hope we still have 8 ND picks after this.
I think this was the year to cut and cut hard looking for upgrades on many as well as utilising at the very least now 8 nd picks imo it should have been more.

Does this now mean a kpd is not on the radar this draft? With Balta Gibcus and backup with Miller Blight and Young id say it was not an area screaming out for immediate attention.

Share your reservations on Young but he was contracted to 25' and we couldn't realistically delist him coming off a knee.

Was never a chance. We now have 8 spots on main list available but no rookies.

On Key backs. If we are looking to play Balta back permanently (we need to choose one and stick) that is one position we have depth in. Compared to every other area of the ground at least.

If having a guess reckon we'll take 7 picks, move one to 25'. Take one key forward and focus the rest on midfielders and running players, especially in the front half of the ground.

We need at least a couple of good small or medium defenders over the next two drafts- to replace Rioli and Baker. But, there are some possible options already on the list anyway, Brown, Sonsie, Tresize, Clarke, Banks, Smith, Green and Ralphsmith are already playing those roles or can be repurposed to play them. All of them are looking for a position. Small forwards and NQR mids often make good small defenders. Depending on who we draft, a couple of newbies may start in the backline.

We have enough relatively untried tall defenders to get by for a while. We will probably need someone when we start to climb the ladder. Hawthorn just pulled the trigger on Battle and Barrass. It is easier to find key defenders than key forwards. Blight needs opportunity, Gibcus needs continuity, Even Kosi might need an opportunity to go back before we delist him in two years.

I think the defence is the least of our problems.

I get where you are coming from. Cutting the list hard was not an option this year given the quality and experience we lost over the last two year.

We cut 10 this year and with Blight and Gray we have 8 open spots. That is about right this year. In 2025 we will cut again and I expect at least 6 will be gone then. After that 2026 is the last full year before Tasmania enters the draft with all the concessions.

I can see the Club's plan and think they are on the right track here. Remains to be seen if we pick well though
