2024 Draft Thread

I've got mixed feelings. The process has been a debacle, as usual, and we've got a few late picks to use. But the bottom line is, the clubs trading the junk picks in benefit far more than the clubs trading them out. In a brutally competitive comp, its another year of free money to the northern academy clubs.
I do agree but you do have to give advance notice.
The AFL saying that things may change to clubs last year without anything crystal is amatuer hour.
I don't like it but I'll take whatever small benefit we may get this year seeing this was the club's strategy

I think its overs. Its overs for Bakes as well. But the market will demand that. The Schulz trade from last year is the precedent.
It's overs if he's uncontracted. It's ballpark for a contracted player such as Rioli who would fill a massive hole in the GCS team.

They need to offer us something substantial to get our attention.

You're probably right all things being equal, but they aren't. Daniel is contracted, and if these rumours are true, and they make sense, GC have identified him as being exactly what they need, which means overs.

What 10 and 13 have netted:

Caddy/ Tholstrup
Phillipou/ Busslinger
Erasmus/ Hobbs
z Reid/ Powell
Green/ Day (That would be quite good!)
Blakney/ Quaynor (so would that)
O'brien/ Brander
Bowes/ Venebales
McKay/ Kennedy

Rioli for Humphrey, straight swap. Between retirements and likely trades we are looking at serious player exodus this year. At some point we need players not draft picks and Humphrey fits our needs and list demographics.
Humphrey is overrated.

Set the bar high and aim for Anderson.

So this is my telling him he is dreaming post. All this depends on two things. One we don't win another game and end up with pick 1 and the AFL doesn't change the draft rules this year.

so Rioli to GC for picks 8 and 20
then Bolton to Freo for picks 11, 14 and 25
Then Baker to WC plus picks 11 and 34 for picks 3 and 25
We then go to Brisbane and deal picks 25, 41 through to 71 for pick 9
Talk to North as they don't really need more midfielders, they need KPP so picks 9 and 14 for pick 2
Graham goes to Port for pick 31 or Adelaide for pick 30
Finally go to Carlton offer picks 23 and 40 for pick 17

Would leave us with 1, 2, 3, 8, 17, 20, 22 and 30 or 31

I would be asking for Lukosius
And after they tell us to get stuffed about Anderson lets look at him

No No No. As @Dyer'ere named him Jack Atrocious

Can't play midfield, apart from a decent run last year is an average forward and would make a decent half back (if he can tidy his kicking up) that we have an abundance of.

Plus would cost a lot.

Dimma will be happy to see him go - Let one of the Adelaide clubs pay overs to take him home.

J actually think there is deep talent with the talls in this draft and they are not top 5,multiple tall talent has come lower down a bit, think balta, rance, mckay,Kernoe,Riewoldt, etc.

If DRioli and Baker did both want out , would there be a chance to package up with WC or Freo and somehow land Rowell or Anderson, if we are going to lose Premiership players still in prime years we must get back elite picks or talent back , no handy types with a bit of “ potential “ .

Rioli and Baker should net us some genuine A grade

nah disagree, not that it matters much what we think !!

I reckon he is a mishandled player at Gold Coast.

I hope everyone is allowing us to leave some leadership in the club rather than trading it out?
Otherwise we’ll be rooted at the bottom of the ladder for the next 10yrs like Carlton and North Melbourne have been.
Number 1 draft picks won’t buy you a Premiership in the short term. You need a balanced list.
1 Taranto.
2. Bolton.
3. Rioli.
4. Baker.
5. Hopper ( hopefully )
6. Nankervis.
7. Balta.
These players should form the cultural base to build the club around. That’s not a large number of senior players.
