2024 Draft Thread

I would have preferred Jagga into the Viking but I have to trust the club know better. The Viking helmets would have been massive at the punt road end.

Just on the types we're going to take - Lalor, Smillie and Allan if there at 10.

That has Toce's imprint over it. He's typically loved guys with strength, size and power.

He has tended to prioritise them higher than other recruiters. So shouldn't be a shock when thinking about it.

Got a bit of presence about him the Hotel Langford. Won't be surprised if he becomes the best player out of the front end of this draft.
I like him a lot, he was my pick in Leysy's "who are you picking with pick 1" thread. I've been hoping he might slide so we can get him with pick 6, but don't think that's going to happen. We need to trade for the Roo's pick 2.

Yep. Wouldn't say he was over the moon about going to either Adelaide or Melbourne.
Through the alignment of South East Juniors and Melbourne, Harvey trained on and off last preseason with the Dee's.
Talking to Toce and Rhy at a Rays game they love him, speaking to Harvey's dad at a junior game in August we had been in touch a lot and kept close tabs on him and probably 30 other kids too!

Listening to Twomey then he's very confident the top 10 is now pretty much locked.

1. Lalor
2, FoS (North)
3. Jagga
4. Draper
5. Langford
6. Smillie
7. Tauru
8. Travaglia
9. Lindsay/Allan
10. Lindsay/Allan

Said only swing from that is Crows going Langford, which will change things about. But he thinks that is unlikely.

History says, you can now (perhaps completely) lock the above in.

Saints get two of leysy's favourite 3 that would loved to have got (along with Jagga).
Wonder if we'll see any live trading? That could usurp best laid plans.
Why are roos picking FOS - thye have enough mids they should trade 2 or pick Taurau
At pick 2 surely you go best available where they are at.

pick 10 & 11 is still looking like trade bait to me, I think we either have to move up for Langford / Smith or make a play for one Lindsay or Travaglia. The big thing I'm seeing in this range is the risk profile of the players starts to shoot up, I think I would prefer to lock down a 200 gamer instead of picking 50/50 prospects like Shanahan & Allan.
Yep I am all in on getting #2 and #8 both of them.

You could add Hynes to that list albeit at a later pick and we can just bash midfields, the game is about speed at the moment but how long before big inside mids are back in vogue. Could we be the trend setters once again.

Yeah that makes a bunch of sense.

Personally speaking, I've changed my mind so many times on what the 'right' type of player is to prioritise early, I've lost count. One thing I do know, is that it would be a refreshing change to draft big-bodied power mids as opposed to our usual haul of skinny flankers. And if they just happen to fall within the 'best available' window, so much the better.

I'll be disappointed if we don't end up with pick 2 - we are in the best position to make a deal and I think securing Jagga / Langford with Lalor would be much better then say a combo of Lalor Smille and Allen.

That’s true although he did pick Wanganeen -Milera so I am hoping we can balance the bulls with some skilled players such as Lindsay, Berry, Oliver.

One thing we haven’t addressed is that we no longer have a player who wears big shorts with Bakes gone.

We need a big shorts man

I was keen as well but according to Twomey it isn’t going to happen now so I have accepted that to be the case barring a miracle late change of heart. It seems to me that our recruiters rate Smillie very highly (I guess he was touted as a a potential number 1 earlier in the year) so they look content to take him and trust the depth of the draft.

Where does he say the bid for Ashcroft comes in?

I've been saying the same for weeks, but was shouted down by the "11 will be better than a future top 5" brigade.

I'd prefer to trade up and back in this draft. I think the top 7 or 8 will be better than the rest, and I also like the look of quite a few i the 35-50 range which I'd happily take.

For example, is Matt Whitlock that much better than say Mraz or O'Farrell as a kpd? Or are Nicholls, Sims, Gerreyn etc that much worse than Jack Whitlock, Faull erc?
