2024 Draft Thread

Lombard is ready to go. if he was on the open market would have been scrutinised more and knocking on the door of the top tier, like say Langford.
I can guarantee that if Richmond had an Ashcroft or a Lombard, every other club would bid on them as early as possible.
I’m stunned that rumours are mounting that Ashcroft won’t get a bid until pick #5.
Lombard played in a VFL Premiership team against men last year, is almost still underage and athletically dominated the draft camp this year. Should be picked between #5 and pick #6
Out of sight, out of mind? Surely not by the recruiters. Apathy and back room hand shake deals more like it.

I think if we do that it will be Smith, I feel there will be some inclination to grab a safe 200 gamer. O'Sullivan is in that high risk bracket, low possession impact players can turn out well like Dale Thomas or they can be disappointments like Jack Billings. With Lalor's injury history I would be grabbing the safest prospect because it would be a disaster to have a couple of busts at 1 & 2.
I remember seeing Lalor in the first round of coates in 2023 against the Swans academy ,and he played quite a bit of time in the midfield ,he was great against Swans listed Caiden Cleary and Indi Kirk ,he kicked yhe winning goal that day .
I remember walking away thinking this kid is a star ,he was ballistic as a inside mid,but also damaging ,he started building a outside game later in 2023,.

I think some of his injuries are partial his fault ,trying to get back to quick for the Academy and Champs games ,and staying on the ground when he did a hammy made it worse.

bengal kudos to you!!

If he can remain injury free over the long haul has the talent to be anything.

So given recruiters generally work to a brief from the coach then surely good kicks will be a priority as this is Yze's publicly stated preference. You'd think players like Reid & Lindsay would be on our radar over the likes of Smillie & Allan.

Someone mentioned Bartel earlier in the thread, that's the best comparison from my limited viewing. I think if he remains fit and healthy he will be a very valuable member of the team.

We can't risks tommorow night.
Fos, plays in bursts low possession winner.
Smillie, big boy in TAC similar to Collier-Dawkins.
Trainor, How many concussions??
Hotton, coming off a knee.
Shannahan, reminds me of Weideman.
Reid, apprantly not hard enough.

North will bid to show the world that they really wanted a gun midfielder and with Brisbane matching the bid grab Tauru. They'll then say we'll we tried.

Thoughts on his foot skills bt ?
Not to bad if we are talking about Allan ,but he is also strong in the air ,and at the contest,,,it looks like we are going for hard types

Yeah l think Bartel,he looks like he can play anywhere and be really good at any position.

Although I would like picks 1 and 2...
I still dont think we need to trade to get 2 of the best 5 mids

Lalor at 1 ...to Tigers
Tauru at 2
FOS at 3
Draper at 4
Langford at 5
Smith at 6..to Tigers

No need to trade....unless Nth trade out.
In which case we take Tauru...win.win.

Better than Smillie..and Allen not pick 6 standard. Reid or Lindsay maybe.

So..all this fretting about who to take at 6 is unneccesary...it is a mid like Smith or Draper...or Tauru.
The player will be obvious at the time.

Unfortunately DA I think its mostly down to logistical capacity. Close examination and assessment of a player takes a lot of time and effort. Why undertake that task for a player you can't get? This factor, combined with a club wanting the player they can get to get the no 1 or top 10 status, effectively grants yet another layer of discount on the already multiple layers of discount.

Out of mind out of sight distance-wise is a factor too, as I've said before re the Suns Academy.

(Lombard had an elite champs too)
