2024 Draft Thread

I reckon we will have a choice between Draper and Smillie at six and go for Smillie. I hope we get Lindsay at 10 to balance out a Lalor/Smillie double. It would be good to get a strong two way runner if we go Lalor/Smillie.
Or take Jagga instead of Smillie. Simples.

Tend to agree.

Blair noticeably gave Toobey & the pack very little during the trade period either.

I reckon Cal might have annoyed us a bit with some of his comments leading up to the trade period as we shaped our draft hand eg value of our players etc. Was clearly pushing agendas.

Yep, Cal's job description reads like a professional reverse blackmail artist. "Speak to me or I push your enemy's agenda. Give me more information than your enemies do and I'll push yours instead"

Unless the phantom is out he only raised the possibility

I
What North does with pick 2 and where Tauru lands is the key to the top 10 clearly.
he has us taking lalor smillievanilli Lindsay Shanahan Dattoli Matt Whitlock Alger and Luke Trainor. I’m a bit underwhelmed by that haul

With the exception of Jagga I feel exactly the same way, I spent some time watching Shanahan in the VFL and despite hitting the scoreboard none of his goals were cut from the cloth of a true power forward. He's crafty but you have to be exceptional to get by on this alone, Gunston is actually a rarity where this is concerned.

Armstrong looks pretty vanilla to me, maybe you get a player in that Amiss mould, that's still possible but I still prefer using a second rounder on Faull who stands every chance to be the better player. Jonty is more mobile but has inferior goal kicking, I think I would back myself to refine his kicking technique because you can't just instill a run and carry mindset into Armstrong, that simply won't happen.

I've already said enough on Smillie, at pick 10 I won't be too upset, at pick 6 ahead of Langford would be a mistake. Langford possesses elite kicking and is very strong overhead, there's options as a wingman, a mid or a medium forward. We have to play the percentages because Smillie is a midfield or bust proposition.
Smillie before either Langford or Tauru would be a mistake.

I think Tombstone is really struggling this year.
Definitely not a lot of conviction in his comments on his selections , sounds like clubs have there player ratings in completely different orders…Intresting how he believes Armstrong could be available around 20
