2024 Draft Thread

Pick 1 a real chance.
*smile* # half a game of brilliance n then surrender when things get tough. Almost had a smile on the dial thinking they might equal us for wins and % boost as well.

So they are gonna change the rules for this yrs draft. And our collection of 3rd and 4th round picks will become useless. Nice.

I don't think things change this year, even the AFL aren't that crazy. It's to create content and discussion.

It's rank amateurism to do it now. Laura Kane had a horrible weekend, and sounded completely out of her depth, ticking off the Pettrecca medical farce and floating draft changes. She mentioned that clubs were aware of changes this year, Tom Morris last night spoke to multiple clubs and they weren't aware of any changes this year.

Nothing would surprise with the OnTheRunFL, but Tom Morris is doing us a favor shining a light on it and getting big names to ridicule it. The DumbFL execs hate it when people they hope to share a line with at the Brownlow point out what dipshits they are. Protecting their egos is even more important to them than screwing over Richmond.

No chance.

We just saw what North are willing to do to keep Pick 1. Blatant tanking on show yesterday.
North are getting better, we are not. We rarely kick over 6 goals a week , they kicked 19 yesterday and are playing much better football than us. It’s in play.

A grab from HS:

Richmond is the most affected of any club given it has stockpiled a collection of late-draft picks it had hoped to use to trade up the draft order.

Clubs like Carlton, Gold Coast and Brisbane would have hoped to trade early picks with Richmond for a collection of later selections worth more points.

More Coverage

But it is possible the AFL might rule all picks over 40 have no points value, which means they are useless for matching bids.

Richmond has Fremantle and West Coast’s third-round picks as well as Port Adelaide and Collingwood’s fourth-round picks.

Added up, those picks could have been worth a first-round selection so the Tigers will be desperate for the AFL’s tweaks to the system to come next year or not affect the points value of draft selections.

Opaque, playing field de-levelling, during play, on the hop, without process or communication

That affects Richmond?

rare consistency from AFL house

There is absolutely no way the AFL should change the rules this year to impact the 2024 draft, given last year the clubs were trading in 2024 picks based on current rules.
I can't believe this is even being discussed / floated by Laura Kane etc - FFS!
The AFL's Integrity Department (lol) should be nipping this in the bud as it is just wrong on so many levels.
And yes I realise I am kidding myself and the fact it hasn't been nipped in the bud means we are highly likely to get royally screwed over, again.

I agree with changing the point system on F/S and academy's but SURELY reason should have it happening next year when everyone knows what they are dealing with , they should NOT torpedo a clubs whole draft strategy, who traded in good faith, based on the rules of the day
Surely what you traded in last year should have the same value in all facets this year. Announce the new rules for next year before trading and the draft and I have no issues.

I know this is a big statement but I believe Laura Kane to be the most inept administrator in AFL history.

She’s been in the role for all of 5 minutes yet has managed to convince the public in that time that she has no idea about football, no professionalism and I doubt her ability to run a bath let alone an important department of the country’s biggest sporting body.

Agree - everything you say is a No brainer.

But senior AFL people dont have normal brains

They have greedy, entitled, corrupt, conniving, vindictive brains

I wonder what our club is prepared to do if the AFL go ahead with these changes this year? Do we get lawyers involved? Doesn’t seem like the kind of thing you can just let slide.

So if the unthinkable happens and they actually change the rules this year what happens with our picks? We dont have enough list spots unless we heavy cull.

At a minimum i think the club needs to ask for clarification so they can plan their strategies.
