Watching this Haw game., if our top pick is not an absolutely elite penetrative kick the entire club can GGF.

The trouble is though, is that they get first dibs at their academy players but they’re able to pick the best ranked at their own draft picks as well. In effect it’s double dipping when a club bids on an academy player at their pick and the clubs can cobble together 5 lower picks that equate to the points value. Bloody triple dipping.

“Host” clubs getting Academy players should be limited to a maximum of 2 in any one year. And pay the equivalent of their next picks available to match the bid. Leftover points can go to adjust their next remaining pick.
“Host” clubs get the value of “matching” a bid. Not using 5 or 6 junk picks. But paying reasonable value. Limited to how many kids they can get that way and the balance of the academy kids top up km

I think the changes will make our hand stronger. It will affect those with potential father / son picks.
How does removing points value to picks 40 onwards help us ,it kills us as we now don't have any picks but 22,31 that have points value.

The big winner by a country mile is gcs who after robbing the competition have 5 picks with points value and 4 of those picks are better than ours.

So in effect the afl will come up with a system that thuks us and helps gcs.

How many r3 picks do we have? what do we have after that?
think it was suggested that after a certain pick (maybe 40?) there would be zero points allocated to it.
I’m not sure whether it was a specific pick number or after the 3rd round.
But I can’t find what pick number it was. I’ll keep looking unless someone else knows what it was. It’s a change from what it is now.

*edit* I just saw jokershoppe’s post. After pick 40. That’s what I thought it was.

I hope willo that it's after round 3 ,no.value as that would help us.

We’d have p2 = 2517
p22 = 845
p33 = 563
Total points. = 3925
Those pricks have stolen 1379 points off us. The points equivalent to approx pick 11. It will have just evaporated. So much for the strategy of trading picks into this years draft.
Tell me how that’s a good thing. What do we bundle up to get higher picks now?

*smile* dumkopf Laura Kane

I hope so too mate.
But I did find in the previous post #1439, John Ralph’s post that said after pick 40 points value would be eradicated. I hope he’s just stirring the pot.

Otherwise the club should be adamant that a compensation pick at pick 11 is owed to us.

I have no problem with fixing up the points system, it is a rort. But, given that clubs trade picks into the following year they cannot do this without notice, they cannot do this for the upcoming draft. But this is the AFL, they might just do it anyway.

Scum.

Let me spell out what could happen as this has come to a head with gcs.
Gcs have picks 8, 9, 20, 26, 29.
Clubs like Carlton, could give their first pick from 2025 to gcs for pick 20 ,then get another first rounder for pick 26 29 for 2025.
Meaning sun's once again would have 3 first for 2025.

FMD. If the Imbeciles in suits chub up over their new found draft structures, we would probably get stuck with using our first five or six picks to somewhat refresh our list and unless we're re planning to give the entire list a major deep overhaul simply chuck the rest of the picks in the bin. There'll be no trade value to any of them and as we already have 2 extra on the list due to long term injuries we'd need a major list overhaul to use any of the other picks.

Laura kane is a moron, quote clubs know that the rules are changing, but the moron doesn't understand that u plan out your draft strategy 18 months in advance and that telling clubs rules are changing doesn't help when u don't know exactly what is changing.
It's amazing that the rule changes never helps Richmond but will.boost the Suns for maybe the next 2 even 3 drafts.

We are going to cut points value out at pick 40.

Afl looks ,oh that's bad luck for Richmond, didn't notice that they had 2 early picks in the 40s.
Go thuk yourselves afl.

I hope that in 2024 we pick up
2 leigh Mathews clones with our 2 pick 40s picks.

These changes seem to be just part of the normal way that the AFL conducts its business. Rule changes mid season. Ruke changes with little or no trial. Hiding its true approach to drug use by players and coaches.
It is beginning to look like a headless chook.

This one is not a bad idea in itself, but to bring it in without 12 months warning would be unfairly detrimental to our club in particular, and plainly so.

Such a change will seriously impact our ability to buy a second first rounder. (The possibility of our using our picks not a player to secure a second top rated mid, probably gone).
It looks like it could also inflate the asking salary for free agents coming in,- another area in which we apparently have an interest.

For-warned is for-armed. I hope our club is already firmly making our position clear.

Blasphemy. 2 x wooden teeth Leigh Matthew’s? He downgraded Dusty so he can GAGF.
I’d be happy with a Cotch and a JackR. Failing that 2 x KLamberts
