2024 Draft Thread

Theyde bugger us gently
The only concession the corrupt pricks would give is they'd use lube. But not the good lube. They'd use the cheap stuff that clings to your pubes and then dries rock hard and hurts like hell when you are washing your bits in the shower and you catch your fingers in tangled short and curlies glued together with what feels like cured araldyte.

Luke Urquhart:

Quote
Another strong performance from Urquhart who was the heartbeat of the WA midfield as they upset the hot favourite SA. He was the largest stoppage influence on the ground, his size and explosive movement difficult to deal with. He was able to find space and use hit long penetrating kick to pump the ball inside 50 11 times for the match.

Bo Allan:

Quote
Bo Allan's size and power through the midfield proved too difficult for South Australia to handle. There's not a lot of subtlety to Allan's midfield craft at this stage, but he's super competitive and crashes through bodies taking the footy with him or creating space in his wake. His bone crunching tackles were also a feature.

Kayle Gerreyn:

Playing predominantly forward, Gerreyn showed how dangerous he can be as a threat in the air and on the ground. At 199cm he's still capable of swooping on loose balls to create scoring opportunities for himself or his teammates with lovely skills by hand or on either foot.

I don't think it is a conspiracy against us. Just complete incompetence from those working at AFL house.

Either way it's totally unacceptable to provide so little notice of such significant change and I'd expect us to come out swinging.

I agree to a point, but if their incompetence disadvantages us, they'll push on regardless. If it disadvantaged Geelong, for example, they might reconsider, amend, cancel etc.

If some clubs are saying they were not told about the changes (as per the Morris piece above) and some were, that's potentially really embarrassing for the AFL if the clubs who weren't told come out and publicly say so (as they *smile* well should).

Sure, they'll brazen it out like every other issue because they're shameless. But it would probably stop it being introduced this year.

the reaction to this from the entire AFL world has varied between 'huh?' or 'you gotta be bloody kidding'.

The initial announcement was very telling, forget who asked her 'bringing these changes in next year?', she replies 'maybe sooner', ie this year. They commentary team were nonplussed.

It would be completely unethical if they change the rules this year. Clubs traded future picks into the 2024 draft based on them having a certain value. You can't then change the value of those picks.

The odd thing is how little the AFL gain from introducing points changes this year.
How little this affects ratings and goals and therefore bonuses.
It would look professional and effective if it was announced with a phase in period.
So why hasten this implementation?

It impacts other clubs like carlton so its not fundamentally anti Richmond.
The only rational explanation is that afl house are so clueless and incompetent that when clubs started complaining they jumped up and rushed to do something. So no one would find out how incompetent they are.

The AFL said they discussed changes last year.
But didnt the murmurings of discontent that cascaded into public unhappiness, didnt that overflow at draft time?
In other words it was during trade / draft period that clubs spoke up about the imbalance.
All while actively trading picks.
And now 8 months later the afl start to discuss it.

Something doesnt add up.
If the AFL had a plan back in November they should ve announced it.
They didn't.
If they spoke to clubs in November, well they didn't have a plan, so all the conversations were off the record this might be looked at.

Note the AFL insist they clubs were "on notice" and "aware". Not informed of concrete changes or plans.
The clubs need facts not generic possibilities.

This is what they’ll use to defend their poorly considered actions; it’s not enough but they won’t care because no one has the power to make them accountable.

Despite what Kane said, there is no way they bring this in this year. You can already see the huge backlash they are copping.

David King even said next year is too early.

The good thing is it's not just us that will cop it. The affected clubs will band together on this.

Imagine Carlton. They have been planning to bring the Camporeale boys in for 4-5 years and have planned and banked points accordingly. Then to suggest the rug is pulled at the last minute WTF!

They are even talking it is a couple of months before any changes are finalised.

Am very confident this is Kane just shooting from the hip because she is out of her depth.

Logically, you are 100% correct. but as we all know, that often doesn't count for much with the AFL.

I reckon it effects a fair few sides worse than us. My main beef is with the flawed process. The usual AFL farce.

What I'd actually love to see is some incremental change. For us, keep the bidding and points system but ditch the discount would be good!
