Would you take him at 10 or 11 or pass completely? To me there is a big difference between his best and worse, when he's not kicking goals,he isn't doing much else .
I know you rate Jonty Faull.

They both play that big chested argy bargy style, Jackson also developed into a reasonably assured player by foot, he was coming back from a mile too, project player in every sense of the word but a 150 gamer and best and fairest winner. Some x-factor highlights near the end of his career. I'd say Jacko extracted every last ounce of talent at his disposal.Huh? Jackson could run all day, Smillie's tank is a major question mark. Jackson was very iffy by foot, Smillie kicks the ball really well, one of his strengths. Jackson had poor footballing IQ, Smillie is high footballing IQ.
They are as much alike as their hair color.
I agree with you Leysy. I am no fan of lead up forwards. They need to have something extraordinary to make it. Ie. enormous aerobic capacity ala Cameron.Only cos they are left footers. Not much else.
A million to one he's gunna be able to have the aerobic capacity nor have the ground ball game Jezza has. Unicorn.
Picked that apart well Dell Boy. Saints next to no chance. Melbourne some chance if they take say a Jagga/Draper at 5 but not with Langford like you say. Have to be a real chance he gets through. At 10 he's well worth taking.
Only part disagree a bit on is who we take at 6. Reckon it is pretty simple - whoever is left of the Big 5 mids or Viking.
Smillie would last in the pecking order if Langford and Smith were still on the board. How far can Smillie slide?
If he gets to 6 can we pass on him?
Saints already have tall hybrid mids, does he fit their current midfield? Think its likely they choose Reid or Lindsay and a tall. Highly unlikely they pick Smillie.
Dees? Sounds like Langford at 5. And Lindsay at 9. Awesome picks. Maybe a tall. Doubt they'd double up with Langford and Smillie.
Can we say that if he is there at 6 then 80% he is there at 10?
Good. Lets pick Smith, Lindsay, Armstrong or Draper at 6 (in that order).
As we all know DA it’s super hard to tell how good a young tall can turn out to be , no doubt there’s a big fella in this draft that will end up a lot better then he’s rated now , some will grow , some will grow into there bodies and find coordination, some will simply gain confidence and learn to use their height and as always they’ll be ones who don’t fulfil there potential, for me as I said earlier I’m seeing potential in all the regular mentioned big blokes , just none of them say next Tom Lynch or Jack Reiwoldt to me , in saying that will be happy to have any one of those lads on the list and then hopefully they can live up to their potential.Armstrong may very well be similar to the player that we previously missed out on in Oscar Allen.
Jack Whitlock and Simms your King type forward but neither rated as highly
Look lm not entirely against him,l think his best is really good ,but needs to be more team orientated and work harder in general play.Would you take him at 10 or 11 or pass completely?
I know you rate Jonty Faull.
Armstrong does a better yoyo than Smith.I agree with you Leysy. I am no fan of lead up forwards. They need to have something extraordinary to make it. Ie. enormous aerobic capacity ala Cameron.
I much prefer Whitlock or Faull.
Nastiness? Not sure on that. Finally someone sees the light.
Others should go back and watch his game in the Victorian Championships as a reminder. He’s not rated around pick 10 for nothing.
As a bonus, Mathew Lloyd reckons he’s got a bit of mongrel in him and will hurt players who stand in front of him when he’s flying for marks.
Can never underrate nastiness
Bully that's like all draftees no guarantees, but his got big upside and the most important traits for me kicking, footy iq and clearance machine. Endurance and marking can be worked onThey both play that big chested argy bargy style, Jackson also developed into a reasonably assured player by foot, he was coming back from a mile too, project player in every sense of the word but a 150 gamer and best and fairest winner. Now I'm looking at Smillie's times & they are in the safe zone for endurance. You have seen more of him but if he can't run out games then his chances of success would be minimal.
Whilst Smillie has his flaws he will be a far better footballer than Dan Jackson.Huh? Jackson could run all day, Smillie's tank is a major question mark. Jackson was very iffy by foot, Smillie kicks the ball really well, one of his strengths. Jackson had poor footballing IQ, Smillie is high footballing IQ.

Do you know if the stress fractures were growth related TT ? Happens a bit at that ageSomething that has intrigued me is how little attention the Tauru injury record has been given. He missed 14 games last year, another 7 this year and then stress fractures were found after the combine. I think he is an amazing talent but if there is people concerned about Lalor, FOS, Hotton, Trainor etc, I am amazed he hasn’t been under the microscope more.
Apples and oranges.Armstrong does a better yoyo than Smith.
Nastiness? Not sure on that.
I also struggle to take the advice of coaches who sing high praise for their players who are potential draftees.
One post ago you though CCJ was a mid. CCJ got stats.
Dudson is a dud. Barge pole.
On matthew lloyd talking about kids he has coached, I'd take everything he says with a tossed blade of grassFinally someone sees the light.

Why are people so negative towards Daniel Jackson? He went from rower to AFL 150 gamer, he also played a fine year of football and his name is etched on the honour board. If Smillie produces anything close to his best and fairest year then he will be doing very well. Granted, Jacko was a slow burn and that's fair enough but his best was pretty good.Whilst Smillie has his flaws he will be a far better footballer than Dan Jackson.
If we get him at 10, I think we have got ourselves a bargain.
