2024 Draft Thread

One post ago you though CCJ was a mid. CCJ got stats.

Dudson is a dud. Barge pole.
I’ll disagree with you on that one spook , which probably increases your chances of been correct 😁, I think Dodson is an excellent Ruck prospect, not that I think he’ll reach Max Gawn levels , however I think he plays a very similar way , normally wouldn’t look at a pick around 20 for a ruck , however I think he’s worth it , imho he’ll end up one of the best 10 in this draft , in saying that I think it’s generally a bit overrated .

Josh Smillie
State: Victoria Metro
State League Club: Eastern Ranges
Community Club: Park Orchards
Date of Birth: 17/05/2006
Height: 195cm

An athletic and versatile player who is capable of playing in the midfield, down back or as a hit-up marking forward. A one-touch player who reads the game exceptionally well wherever he plays, he averaged 26 disposals and kicked 16 goals in 12 matches with the Eastern Ranges this year which included logging 34 disposals and kicking three goals against the Brisbane Lions Academy. Won the Ranges’ best and fairest and earned selection in the Coates Talent League Team of the Year. A member of the Marsh AFL National Academy, he was given the honour of captaining the Australian U18 team in its matches against Coburg and Footscray and was among the better players in both games, averaging 23.5 disposals in a midfield and defensive role. Played a variety of roles for Victoria Metro in their National Championships title-winning team, averaging 18.8 disposals and 5.8 clearances. His 6:38 for the 2km time trial and 8.39 seconds on the agility test at the Draft Combine were both good results for a player of his type.
Weapon: Ball-winning ability and versatility

Agree with you that Dodson is a very good prospect ,he's clearly the best Ruck prospect of this year's crop.

Harrison Oliver ,Christian Moraes and Angus Clarke all good value picks in our twenties
I haven’t watched anything of Oliver since the carnival , however I thought he looked like he had a nice left boot and was hard at man and ball , wouldn’t be unhappy if he ends up at Punt rd

I like that he stays on his feet and in the contest bt , bit like Nank where he continues to compete after the initial ruck contest
He's good,he will get better in the right environment ,not sure if we will take him though, might fly pass Sampson who has another 3 year's left o_O

Players this size also take longer to bend down, that's probably the main reason so many fail, a lack of ground ball game puts them at a big disadvantage.
Is the prototype for Smillie Daniel Talia? He was also a big mid IIRC but ended up a key defender.
If he can't mark overhead he will be up against it.

Armstrong being undersold on here, he's every bit the prospect Amiss was at draft time.

At worst he is Bayley Fritsch.

Finally someone sees the light.
Others should go back and watch his game in the Victorian Championships as a reminder. He’s not rated around pick 10 for nothing.
As a bonus, Mathew Lloyd reckons he’s got a bit of mongrel in him and will hurt players who stand in front of him when he’s flying for marks.
Can never underrate nastiness

To be honest Scoop I haven’t spent a lot of time looking at the KPP of this draft , I stand very corrected but there’s only one who I’ve seen who actually clunks the ball in Sims , that not saying he’s got all the other tools , however unless you’ve got Jezza Cameron wheels and a team that keeps that forward line super open ( impossible in modern footy) I haven’t seen any that I can say , “ geez we can build a forward line around that lad” ,potential absolutely there’s a few with plenty of it , I’m just not seeing any that have a Max King junior look about them .

Jack o.o_Ough Is 194cm mid still 17,he's considered a second rounder ,l rate him better although they are a bit different ,Smillie much more inside with a stronger body, but O.O.O does a lot of work around the ground and contested stuff.
O.O.O probably is more a wingman at this stage.

Armstrong may very well be similar to the player that we previously missed out on in Oscar Allen.
Jack Whitlock and Simms your King type forward but neither rated as highly

To me there is a big difference between his best and worse, when he's not kicking goals,he isn't doing much else .

That's his range, being totally objective I reckon he plays a similar game to Daniel Jackson
Huh? Jackson could run all day, Smillie's tank is a major question mark. Jackson was very iffy by foot, Smillie kicks the ball really well, one of his strengths. Jackson had poor footballing IQ, Smillie is high footballing IQ.

They are as much alike as their hair color.

Smillie testing results we're not far off the best at the combine so that narrative doesn't stand up. The top tier mids that tested were around 6:24-6:39 for their 2km time with smillie being 6:38
