2024 Draft Thread

Blair has said in effect that he would not give such an undertaking and I believe him. The fact that we included the Fremantle pick 32? in the pick swap for 20 tends to support. If he follows through on that approach then I think we will bid on both Ashcroft and possibly Marshall as well.
Yes Blair can of course say that without affecting his undertaking, he has the perfect smokescreen, that he thinks Ashcroft is only the 2nd best in the draft.

I fear Smillie is going to disappoint. His one sidedness is going to be his undoing.
Allan would be a great get but no way before Tauru.
Just scanning a few of these mock drafts, a combination of FOS, Lalor, Smillie & Allan could easily end in tears. That's about as high risk as you could possibly muster with all the available talent.

Agree. Smillie's disposal efficiency, if you watch full game player highlights, not just best plays, is very poor. That concerns me greatly. Of course, those that watch full games live may have a better perspective than me.

My safe as houses triple would be Smith, Langford & Tauru. Lalor still hasn't demonstrated elite running ability and crash & bash footballers tend to have stop, start careers. O'Sullivan is also high risk, he's an impact player who doesn't touch the footy to the same extent as Smith & Langford. He's effectively missed a year of footy so he's already behind the game. Draper is a poor kick of the football, for all the pace he exudes he has a tendency to kick mongrel punt floaters. This is a deal breaker for me, we need classy finishers.
Agree.

And good to see you've took old Leysy's advice, saw the light and dropped off your love of Armstrong and jumped over to The Viking.
Love your views on Tauru.
If we think that North are not only going to keep 2 but use it on him, can either of you conceive of us trumping North, (sounds nasty doesn’t it).

Sure, you solve the problem by taking Tauru at pick 2, North will have no idea how to handle that scenario because they want talls. At this point you go back and offer our lesser picks and grab a player like Langford. If North don't want a mid then they are caught between a rock and a hard place.

You mean after bidding on Ashford at 1?
I’d do it too.

What the Weagles accepted for pick 3 had no relevance to what the Roos will accept for pick 2, not what we think is a good deal.

Using your logic our pick 6 is worth 2 picks in the late teens.
Who knows what the Roos are willing to accept for pick 2
Wetcoke was happy with their deal for 3 We can use it as a guide nothing is set in stone

I dont reckon we will bid on Ashcroft at 1, not because of some secret deal with the Lions, but because we princely haven't interviewed him and won't have spent much time watching, instead we will be spending our energy on guys we are actually choosing between.
Likewise we won't bid early on Marshall because we wont have spent much time trying to rank him.

The Saints currently have picks 7, 8, 32, 47, 80 & 88.

We have 1, 6, 10, 11, 18, 20, 23, & 24.

Would the Saints entertain their pick 7 or 8, along with 32 & 47 for our picks 23 & 24? We end up with picks 1, 6, 7 or 8, 10, 11, 18, 20, 32 & 47.

They would still have pick 7, and gain our 23 & 24, we get another top 10 pick, and picks 32 & 47. There's still going to be some good players in the 30's and 40's.

Or would they come at our 20 & 24 instead of our 23 & 24.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, I've been away recently for a few weeks.
Trading with the Saints has legs Tigerman but I think they want picks in the teens. I like your scenario because it maximises our flexibility but I can't see the Saints doing it
Twomey said that the Saints had entertained splitting 8 but his belief is they will sit on what they have

Love The Viking. But there's not a planet on this earth we use pick 1 on him.

I don't see any issue going early on Tauru if one of Smith or Langford is guaranteed at 6. I have those two ranked higher but it doesn't matter where they are picked, just so long as we get the cattle when the dust settles.

Heres Smillie heat map Not as bad as some make out for a pick between 3 - 10
Seems he has alot of upside

What is Twomeys power ranking based on? It mentions form guide and updated every month but no one has played footy for weeks now. Not sure how it can change since last month?

Any chance we grab the Whitlock twins, be nice for them and reckon they would drive each other at training by the sounds of their competiveness.

In your opinion of course. It was mentioned last year that Tigers purposely accumulated lower draft picks last year knowing they would trade them for higher picks this year. So Tigers saw value in trading the lower picks for #20 (I agree in this draft) particularly after we received all the extra picks in player trades. Again why then throw away points that have value into the neverland that benefits neither team?

Anyway, we'll know soon. If Tigers do bid at #1, I'll be wrong but I still wouldn't understand why you'd throw the points away.
You’re like a broken record. If Brisbane save 600 points from us not bidding on Ashcroft, how does Richmond benefit?
It’s not throwing away any Richmond points. If you take points away from Brisbane it could benefit us in th draft this year and next.

Now your talking - love the thinking.

Would lolnorf then consider 2 teen picks (say a mix of 10/11 and 18/20) for 2 as we have solved their problem of wanting a single digit pick for Tauru or would they sulk away and refuse to deal with us.

Taking Tauru and trading for pick 2 means we get our cake and eat it to but if lolnorf refuse to trade then we end with only 1 top 6 ranked midfielder, not two.
