2024 Draft Thread

Did we make any handshake 'deals' when we traded out Shai, Daniel, Bakes and picks to Brisbane? Like we won't put a bid in on player X before pick Y? Or alternatively, did we promise to put a bid on some player X before pick Y... FM?

Twomeys “ rankings” are out , we are linked to everyone
My thoughts.
Lombard criminally underrated and would be top 6 if not for the fact he’s locked in with the Suns. Someone must bid earlier.
Lindsey underrated and think he’ll go closer to top 10.
Can’t see Adelaide not picking Draper with their first pick.

Where's Clueso? If Cal is God, you'll seethe who we appear to be linked with and not.

Eg he links us with Shanahan but not Faull.

Have we ever been interviewed for a job, T_G? We have. It's not mysterious. Frequency of phone call. Recency of phone call. Indicators. Absence of phone call - big indicator.

In the case of these job interviews appointments can't be made until draft night and even then there are vagaries but they're still just job interviews.

Cal finds out about the job interviews. Many sources. Interviews are not much of a secret. The All-Seeing One is God - but he's not mysterious.

As SA told us, T_G, today's Twomey gospel is ranking not phantom. Cal is telling us a lot of what he knows. Not all but a lot. He does have paragraph on who goes where. That's the good paragraph.

If Cal puts a team name in the paragraph on "Where does he go?" he gives us a reason. When he says "doing a lot of work" "done a lot of work" "put in the work" he means been on the phone. Interviews.

Later in the draft he says "will go in this range" "will go somewhere within the reach of say RFC" he means he has no idea but for that. He's gotta put something. If you're marking his exam you know he didn't know the answer.

If a player is linked to a particular club Twomey says "Player X is linked to Adelaide." And that's a link. It means he's been interviewed, probably quite recently. "Has been linked" means has been interviewed. Interviewed doesn't mean just one phone call.

He's in love with Langford and can't believe he isn't going #1. This colours his writing. He hates Lalor and thinks Lalor is a fruitloop decision and betrays that with a hint that until recently nobody else had him in the top three or four. So let's do Lalor first-

Where does he go? Richmond has been strongly considering him at No.1. There's a world where if they don’t choose him there, he might still get through to pick No.6 but it's very unlikely. North Melbourne, Adelaide, Carlton and Melbourne also have strong interest in the top-five and are all doing extra work on him in recent times.
Cal Twomey AFL.com.au

This is interesting. Why would MFC be interviewing him if they don't think he might get through? Well, they have to do their contingency planning, sure. But maybe they think they're a chance. Maybe there is some doubt.

That said, Twomey's thrust is unchanged - Lalor at #1. I don't call that a link. It's as close to a lock as we can get at this stage. Twomey don't like it but he has to lump it.

On Twomey "linking" RFC to Shanahan, he just mentions eight clubs or whatever. He's making it up. He doesn't know. "[RFC et al] are all viewed as the most favoured..." is a distant grammatical construction used to imply authority in vacuous content. It's padding. He's got nuthen.

I'll go through the rest over the day. There is information in there. He's given us something.

Twomey has had about 5-6 player's he thought would go at no1 throughout the year ,except Lalor ,but his off sider Beveridge has rated Lalor highly .
Twomey is a knee jerker ,changes his mind every week .

Josh Smillie-

Where does he go? It is one of the intriguing questions in this year's top-10. Richmond has been strongest linked with its second choice, but St Kilda has back-to-back picks and Smillie will be in the ballpark there.
Cal Twomey AFL.com.au

Twomey is nailing Smillie to RFC at #6. Not linking him. Locking him. He mentions St Kilda having back to back picks. If he's got anything else he's not letting it out. (Note the use of that grammatical construction again. Implying authority but vacuous.)

Smillie is a key. Tauru is the biggest key.

Carlton might take Smillie, and why wouldn't they if he's the next Cripps

He's fairly constant in his Langford love, Bengal. But you're right. He did foresake Langers for FOS in this ratings. But he still hates Lalor.

We just don't know who they'll take, do we? To me Smillie makes terrific sense to Carlscum. But they'll probably take Draper (who also makes sense) after we take FOS.

Did so many handshake deals all our picks are going to be bolters from the 3rd n 4th rounds of the draft. We gunna late pick everyone to death.

I think taking Lalor and Smillie is doubling down on the risk factor and I wouldn’t do it, not with our first 2 picks. Take a risk on one but not both.

If we are locked onto Smillie, as Twomey believes then I assume we aren’t taking Lalor at 1

The way it seems is the Tigers want bigger player's who are also strong defensively among other things .
Ouzo's input is he wants a power midfield like the Demons have/had ,yes we have Taranto and Hopper ,for another 3 years at least ,but the Lads we get will be for 12 year's plus ,,it's all planning for the future ,not tomorrow .

Twomey goes where the intel takes him.

His power rankings reflect the players ongoing performance. So of course that will fluctuate. I think that's all pretty BAU.

Let's hope the Blues see the light. Smillie in blue looks good to me.
Viking come on down.
In a world of unknowns we'd be mad to overlook the best key position prospect in the draft. What a beautiful scenario for Richmond, the downside minimal as Tauru surely becomes a defender if he busts up forward. This is what I'm harping on about when I refer to managing risk, this particular scenario is so low risk that it would be negligent to let Tauru slide.
