2024 Draft Thread

I like that outcome, a lot. I'd probably dodge 2nd Whitlock, just too raw for me with so many rookie selections (and Taps) on the list. If Shanahan were around or Faull still at 23, I'd grab them instead. Hannaford maybe.
Yep. You can re plant and replace some names. Point being, you can totally load up big time at the front whilst also still garnering some serious talent later on as well.

We need to just bid on Ashcroft at 1. According to Draftguru the number of premiership players drafted at each pick in the top 10 since the national draft began looks like this:

Pick 1 - 5
Pick 2 - 9
Pick 3 - 12
Pick 4 - 9
Pick 5 - 7
Pick 6 - 2
Pick 7 - 8
Pick 8 - 6
Pick 9 - 8
Pick 10 - 4

Pick 1,6 and 10 have the lowest strike rate. We need to shift our picks!

Went and watched the Colts and League GF's yesterday.

Claremont's Hamish Davis won the medal for BOG in the Colts GF, he was very good in the 2nd half. He and Hugh Boxshall both got a heep of the ball, Boxshall is a very promising talent. Sibosado is a nice mover, FF Ravenhill took some nice marks and kicked 3 goals. Ruckman Riddle moves well and took some good grabs. I like CHB Clancy Dennis too, I've seen him play a few good games now.

Swan Districts Ottis Harvey tagged Davis, he did ok, is a well built kid, busted through a tackle at pace and kicked a very nice goal. Their ruckman Evan Smith started well, but lowered his colours to Riddle. Full forward Colby McDonald took a very good contented mark and converted, he also plays 2nd ruck, is undersized but has a good leap, might make a good backman.

Boxshall had a blinder in the Wa's state combine yesterday. He ran the 2k in 6:08 which would've have had him finish 2nd in the National Combine. His 7.98 seconds for the agility would had him finish 5th, and his standing vertical jump of 73cm's would've had him 4th in the National Combine.

As well as the Boxshall's athletics attributes he's also a very good footballer.

Could do a lot worse than pick Boxshall or Bo Allan, or both of them.

I hope we are giving serious consideration to Hugh Boxshall. Pick 24 might've been a bit of a stretch before the Wa State Combine, I reckon his stocks may have risen since the combine.
He really finished the season off very well after having a couple of injuries early in the season.

11 and 18.

1. Lalor
2. FOS
6. Smillie (maybe Jagga)
10. Allan
20. Whitlock/Faull
23. Dodson or 2nd Whitlock
24. Hynes

Or something of that nature.
I’ll delete my account if 10/11 & 18 happens.

It’s a pipe dream at best Red. It’s the sort of silly trade idea Essendon fans or Dodoro stumps up.

If the right offer comes (which it will) we should be shuffling one of those into next year ILO.

Reckon we need to attack this rebuild from more than one draft.

Not many clubs have the future picks we want tho Mr Daze.
Say we'll want picks 1-12.
And our picks18-24 are on the table.
Any later future picks may not be better than this years pick. In other words its got to advantage us.

So looking at the clubs
Some will finish too low to trade our 18-24 with - North, Crows, WCE
GC (and GWS?) arent trading because of academy kids.

Some clubs are a risk of winning in 25 - blues/hawks n dogs. Cats a risk too. Freo are probable movers up.
Obviously Brissy Swans are out. They will have future picks 11-18 which isnt tradeable for us.
Unless it also involves a later pick this year.
Eg Cats F1 + 45 for 23 ...err 45 is pretty late. No thanks.
The club need a useful pick for us, say 25-35
Dogs F1 + 35 for 24.. They do have 25 so its not likely.

It leaves Bumbers and Saints with good Future firsts to trade.
Ess will prob come for Shanahan, i can see 11 being traded out (it needs to be live because of Kako & confirming their man is available)

So possible trades
Ess trade F1 + 28 for 11
Saints trade F1 for 18 (too one sided our way)
Hawks trade blues F1 + 33 for 23
Freo trade F1 + 30 for 20
Port trade F2 and 29 for 24

Not a big basket of trades there my friend.

I made my point on another thread about 10 and 11, but my view is that the players in that range, aren't really for us IMO.

I reckon we need at least 3 in the top 6 or 7, than happy to pick in the 15-30 range from there,
We may give one up but Allan around 10/11 would be a great pickup.

Boxshall an interesting one. Where do you see him going?

WC would be keen at 26 youd reckon. Or Freo at 30. If we wanted him we'd probably need to spend 24

Has probably flown under the radar a bit, his state combine testing has probably elevated him a bit, a good chance to go late 2nd round or in the third round.

WAFL Semi Final

#18 Hugh Boxshall
Midfielder | 187cm | 11/07/2006

Stats:
28 disposals, 5 tackles, 4 marks

"Also returning to the Tigers’ outfit, Boxshall made an immediate impact, utilising his height to stand tall in tackles and distribute, creating clearances from the midfield. He was neat with ball in hand, particularly delivering inside 50 which he did six times. The ever-prolific Boxshall continued his superb run of form in the second half of the season."

WAFL Grand Final

#18 Hugh Boxshall
Midfielder | 187cm | 11/07/2006

Stats:
30 disposals, 5 marks, 6 tackles

"The other contender for the Mel Whinnen Medal, Boxshall was consistently dominant across all four quarters. The taller midfielder displayed classy hands inside contests, setting up his teammates to win clearances and found plenty of the ball himself on the outside with his run and spread. Boxshall’s influence was felt most with his relentless running and his ball use going inside 50, where he lowered his eyes to hit targets. Though there were some examples of shaky decision making, it was mostly due to taking the game on, which helped Claremont set up the win."

Very good summary. Personally I wouldn’t trade any of our picks below 18 for a future first. We should get overs, it is a seller’s market, let’s see how badly a club wants a particular player. If the offer isn’t good enough we can happily keep it.

Boxshall caught my eye at the championships, I think him and Ivisic could be real good value in this draft.

Love the tackling. Sticks them but is not giving away free-kicks (in the highlights). Ball use and vision look great here too.

Negatives - Injury, unknown aerobic capacity, and he is a Collingwood supporter...
I think there'll be enough history for clubs to research and ascertain his aerobic capacity. I doubt there's an issue but if there is he will surely slide.
