2024 Draft Thread

Dont think the deal Nth 2 and F1 ..for our 10,11 and 23 works.

Pick order..
1 Lalor
2 FOS
3 Draper..Blues
4 Langford.. Crows
5 Tauru..Dees.
6 Smith
7 Lindsay..Saints
8 Shanahan..Saints
9 Reid..Dees

North do NOT get their needs met...neither good talls nor good mids.

We get Smith or Reid....very nice...then nothing till 18.
Will miss Whitlock, Berry, Trevaglia,Hannaford,Allen , Shanahan and Tauru.
Does not satisfy our needs either.
This is a lose / lose for both sides.

Yes we get F1...nice...but we need lots of high picks this year.
So...I am not a fan.

But...do want 3 top mids.
Needs something better in my view.ie we need to hold one of 10 or 11 somehow.
Ie. 1,2, 6 and 10 or 11....or 1,2. 10 and 11.

I made my point on another thread about 10 and 11, but my view is that the players in that range, aren't really for us IMO.

I reckon we need at least 3 in the top 6 or 7, than happy to pick in the 15-30 range from there,

Bit of a left field one but could this work….

Richmond 10,11,F2

For

North 2,F1

Gives us 18 & 20 for two good talls in Faull, Whitlock’s or Sims

I still reckon there is a chance that we do a whole bunch of trades, they'd need to be done pretty much simultaneously. All have been spoken about before:

With Port - Pick 10 for Pick 13 and 39
With North - Pick 2 and F1 for 6 and 13
With Saints - Pick 7 for Picks 11 and 20

Essentially we give up 6, 10, 11 and 20 and replace those picks with 2, 7, F1 and 39. We essentially replace 8 picks with 8 picks, we drop to 7 picks in 2024 but gain a great pick for next year.

The reason I like this is I see a gap with the top 7 or 8 players, then a bunch of players that are mainly flankers or risky prospects and then the bulk of the talls towards the 20 region. There are some good types around that Pick 39 (which will slide in (in our Phantom it was 36).

So we would take 1, 2, 7, 18, 23, 24 and 39 to the draft.

Hope not we have Taranto and Hopper both of them are slow enough. Even McAuliffe Ross prestia Dow and Sonsie are not overly quick
Langford imo if he has a knock is his pace.
But he racks up touches at will and kicks multiple goals as a midfielder. Elite tank.

To not pick him up for that reason only is pure negligence.

Spot on, have a look at the Phantom draft, we miss out on Jack Whitlock but can still get his twin brother. May as well park some chips at the top end, those are the players who win you matches.

Lets not forget just how much lower vfl is to afl.
But also consider he's well out of his weight division yet he's producing elite clearance numbers. This tells me he has ball winning instincts, he's certainly not bulldozing his way to big possession tallies.

All the medical side would be ticked mate clubs do due diligence.
Lalor supposedly did an 8 to 10 week mega rip on the hammy, didn't he? Not sure the bloody thing's even finished healing yet. Reckon he'd be on a mega cautious build up at least until after the Xmas break.

I would be staggered (fully knock me down with a feather staggered) if we traded out 3 picks in 2024 and only got one pick in 2024 back, even with an F1. We just aren’t going to do that deal.
Why ?

We Still have 6 picks
#1 , #2 , #6 , #18 , #20 , #24 which is perfectly fine and can get train on players to assess which we like or Rookie
We then have 2 x 1st rounders and 2nd rounder next year

I would 100% do that

It's easy to say that in hindsight and when the decision is taken out of your hands but the Scully Cup was was delivered to Melbourne after that shot on the siren.
Inside intel, we wanted Dusty.

If we'd lost the Scully cup, we'd have two picks, one of them was going to be Martin. Sydney wanted him bad, but Frank repeatedly said no way, don't do the trade.

Usually 6 would be plenty of picks, but the club also has a big chance to cash in on a what is supposedly a very strong draft. We also have needs all over the ground

IMO we take at least 7 picks this year. I think we’ll actually take 8 though. I predict we trade one of the later picks for a F1st & a later pick this year. Next years draft is compromised, but does have KPF options available, so getting a F1st would still be appealing

Overall though all recruiters are raving about this years draft so feel like we’ll prioritize this year pretty heavily

By some of these expectations of multiple high draft picks I feel some are going to be very disappointed.
I think some folks are expecting no one else to draft a good player.

And the disrespect for someone like Smillie, who's still being rated highly in phantom drafts and power rankings etc. I feel like we have a cheer squad for a select few, and we might nab half if them.

Taking some Kleenex Aloe Vera tissues to Punt Rd next week I think.

I like that outcome, a lot. I'd probably dodge 2nd Whitlock, just too raw for me with so many rookie selections (and Taps) on the list. If Shanahan were around or Faull still at 23, I'd grab them instead. Hannaford maybe.
