Yes true, I was wondering the same thing.I remember someone posting that Toce was ill not long after he was appointed recruiting manager.
Not sure how much input he may have had after that.

This was Clarke's first draft, FJ assistant.Nup. Clarke took over recruiting in 2017. Shai was drafted in 16'. He was FJ's pick.
Richmond recruiting manager Francis Jackson said Bolton's speed was a handy asset.
"It won't go astray," Jackson told AFL.com.au.
"We added Daniel (Rioli) last year and provided a lot of excitement and we think Shai is well placed to do the same."
Both are noted tacklers who will put enormous pressure on opposition defenders while feeding off any crumbs from Jack Riewoldt.
Bolton was, by his own admission, slightly inconsistent during 2016 but he is capable of turning a game in minutes with his goal sense and capacity to do the unexpected.
Absolutely typical FJ pick. Huge ceiling and some elite traits but inconsistent and some flaws to iron out. Potatoes Clarke rarely if ever had the plums to take a punt on such players. His legacy will be drafting vanilla, consensus type footballers without any great traits nor flaws.
Not sure if they had a heat map back in the dayHey @btoz_01 I wonder if there was a heat map like that for Dusty and Cotch before they were drafted. It’s easy in hindsight but I wonder what the thinking was prior.
The Cotch decision came down to an elite ruck or elite mid and both turned out great players, Cotch winning the reach.
Martin at pick 3, I think the knock was background and the risk of mucking up maybe, but man, smashed that one.
Luke Williams picked up on Dan Rioli,,look it up.For starters Shai was a Clarke pick and I'm talking about conservatism in the first round, beyond that guys like Edwards & Menadue come into play. Dea was a third round pick, I think it's fine to have a punt at this point in the draft. He wasn't a terrible pick either, 70 games a lot more than most third rounders.
Dan Rioli was the exception, that draft was Jackson's last hurrah and I actually rate this pick to be the best of his career. This was a compromised draft with all the goodies snapped up by Gold Coast. We were in the market for a small forward and had Ah Chee pencilled in but then had to get creative once he was taken at pick 8. This was a visionary pick with an incomplete body of work but Jackson nailed it and the rest is history.
I'm not sure the point you are trying to make? Are you suggesting Jackson had nothing to do with this pick?Luke Williams picked up on Dan Rioli,,look it up.
This was Clarke's first draft, FJ assistant.
Sheeesh, he was 194cm a few hours earlier. How tall will he be by draft night? Not to mention Tauru is a november birthdate and said to be now 195cm so alot more growth
Its his kicking i dont like but his athletic ability and upside is great. Would be a good get at 10/11
But i would be taking Jagga / Smillie before Tauru
FJ vs Clarke success rates
FJ 55% first round pick success. 32% success with second pick (typically 2nd or even 3rd round pick)
MC 50% first round pick success. 65% success with second pick.
Obviously FJ drafted the pillars for our premiership, Clarke most definitely did not.
Anyway not much difference - especially since all are effectively first round picks in this years deep draft.
We also don't know what the Toce and Blair influence will be.
In general the odds of early draftees are about 50 / 50 - so a flip of the coin!
Again. No he wasn't.
Can point you to any number of references on this. It's very clear cut.

Is that intel or a viewpoint on Jags?
Tomato, mustard and sweet n sour.
Again, Clarke never really had the same opportunities as Frank. One pick inside the top 10. How many in the top 15?My take is completely the opposite, Jackson always opted for the blue collar, inside driven player who usually had reliable foot skills. His process of elimination cost him some gems in Heppell & Weller but also allowed him to pick up some handy 200 gamers like Vlastuin & Ellis. Conservatism built a dynasty, Clarke never understood this and only delivered one bumpper haul which was his first draft, after which time he became flanker crazy, stocking up on the same type of player over & over.
The 2015 draft wasnt "compromised" at all, other than academy selections. The Suns had 1 pick before ours- pick 8- Ah Chee.Dan Rioli was the exception, that draft was Jackson's last hurrah and I actually rate this pick to be the best of his career. My biggest criticism of Clarke stems from his reluctance to recruit genuine spine players, CCJ over Sam Taylor was always going to be a long shot and there have been other missed opportunities although some of those players are still in development. He risked the biscuit on RCD with full knowledge the kid had an 11 beep. Whether or not the blame lies with the coaching staff is up for debate but this is another prime example of high risk versus ready-made conservatism with a top end pick.Again, Clarke never really had the same opportunities as Frank. One pick inside the top 10. How many in the top 15?
After Frank had picked our core, we wanted a type to keep the game style going.
I think as a club we got the strategy wrong, not sure it's right to pin Clarke for that.
It was compromised in so much that the top tier midfielders & talls were assigned to interstate academies. Creativity was needed to nail a core player and small forwards can be risky at this point in the draft. Pick 15 for a team finishing 8th is unusually low, I was personally struggling to find worthy candidates at this point, I think Dan Rioli was hovering in that 20-30 bracket for most of the year and was genuinely surprised to see Richmond select him.The 2015 draft wasnt "compromised" at all, other than academy selections. The Suns had 1 pick before ours- pick 8- Ah Chee.
The Giants had 1- Hopper.
We bid on a tall (tall flanker) first- Hipwood, then an inside mid- Kennedy, then got Rioli at 15.
We then too Markov in the 40s (?) and Broad later again.
A pretty good draft.
Has there been any public news on how the Hammy is travelling bt ?Lot's of going around in circles on here,,,Laor is coming whether you like it or not,BECAUSE he is the best all round player out there.
SIMPLES
Hope not we have Taranto and Hopper both of them are slow enough. Even McAuliffe Ross prestia Dow and Sonsie are not overly quickBlair loves Langford therefore I can't see him trading out pick 6.
Tough inside mid, Couglan type
His tank is also up there with Sidebottom who ran a 3.27 sprint, in this instance i don't think speed will be an issue.Hope not we have Taranto and Hopper both of them are slow enough. Even McAuliffe Ross prestia Dow and Sonsie are not overly quick
Langford imo if he has a knock is his pace.
All the medical side would be ticked mate clubs do due diligence. His got the biggest upside out of Smith and FOS. Jackson doesn't always goes for that blue chip player Dusty was always our man while dees went conservative with Trengrove and Scully.I won't because it indicates we've done our due diligence, Lalor is an injury risk with a questionable endurance base. He's just ripped a hammy off the bone and I doubt the RFC wants another Gibcus scenario with a pick we cannot afford to screw up.
