2024 Draft Thread

Travaglia seems to have the necessary competiveness you want when building a list to win a Premiership, also seems a good athlete and smart aggressive footballer , however my querie on him is he a good enough disposer of the ball for that classic modern day half back I.e Suns superstar Rioli D ?

I don’t have the ego of some so feel free to tell me I’m wrong , however if this draft is as good as media are talking it up I expect a player like Travaglia to be a pick in the 20s not talked about from 7-12 , so many after the first couple seem to have obvious deficiencies, of course all players do , however so many seem to lack foot skills or competitiveness or consistency or pace or endurance, as long as we get 7 of the best 10 it’ll be ok 😉

Won't tell ya your wrong, as nobody knows that Leysy's right yet.

But to save typing same stuff again, this is what posted earlier in year on why love The Italian Stallion. Be absolutely fine if we take him 10 or 11.

But yeah your right that there are deficiencies Or better term question marks on all prospects this year. But also some great traits.

Disagree lads.

He's started playing mid forward for Bendigo with very strong results - so wouldn't be pigeon holing his role.

He mightn't be the silkiest player in the pool, but is there anyone who competes, steps up in big moments, wants to be the "man", hates losing and is a leader as much as him?

Depends how much you value the latter. He oozes having confidence and drive to get the absolute most out of himself. All those things are Big Bonus points - Even moreso with us having a pretty meek side and likely about to lose Bakes.

As we know, he's also exceptional overhead, covers the turf, has a nice burst of speed and importantly looks like he has a very good tank (love to see his Yo Yo number).

He's a watch for the rest of the year to see how he continues to translate up the ground, but he's about 10-12 on Leysy's list ATM and be welcome in Tiger colours.
Travaglia at 8 - hmmmmm. Good to see some love.

He had a sneaky under the radar VFL debut for Carlton on the weekend.

Had a couple of sloppy kicks early. Which he can do.

But farrkkk, he plays for keeps. How's his attack on the footy and tackling. He's next level in that area.

Very very good one on one against men. Looks like he really grew into the game as he adjusted to the higher pace.

Once he fills out he's gunna be a great physical specimen who will make opponents scared when they have the ball, and nervous with his attacking mindset with it

.

He's all footballer. Love him.

I reckon Norf splits pick 2. Rawlings is out walking the streets ringing a bell and wearing a sandwich board with 'Pick 2 - MAKE ME AN OFFER!' on the front and 'F1 FOR SALE!' on the back.

10 + 18 for 2 + F2
6 + 20 or 23 for 2 + F2

I have as roughly equal favourites. If we could be confident Smillie gets to 10 we'd do the latter deal yesterday. But we can't, so we sweat them. Do they have to have Tauru, or will they settle for two highly rated talls?

Less likely are the Adelaide deal (4 + F2 for 2), keeping 2 and trading F1 for pick 16, or doing a deal with St Kilda which I rate the most unlikely.

Yeah. Absolutely. And in fact, I reckon they've already done something based on their "softening up" the fan base comments that they made this week.

Consensus seems to be late teens, 20s for Berry so would be in the mix for us.
Id be surprised if Berry gets past Freo and Port.
Think the lack nf talk is due to its likely he is gone between our 4th and 6th pick. We'd only have one shot at him.

Would I be happy if we took him at 11? Yes

Of course we are going to try and get pick 2,and if North do trade out there first next year it will be to the Tiger's,probably picks 6-11 for 2-f1.
We get the best 2 player's ,and whoever drop's at 10,,,etc etc

Yeah the media running with that was a pretty big tell.
Yeah. And by extension, who has the most options for them ? I mean they could go somewhere else, but unless its a really complicated 3 or 4 way deal, I don't see it otherwise. Unless they shaft themselves of course (not out of the realms of possibility).

I have been on the Smillie bandwagon for a while and do not quite understand the concerns on his kicking

Think he is a great kick, excellent clearance player with a massive upside

Also do not think his ruckwork in the forward line gets enough credit, think he is Hawkins like the way he ragdolls his opponent and kicks goals, has done it plenty of times

A truly unique prospect, and for me far superior to Langford and Jagga, due to his size, versatility, high ceiling and athletic profile
Is he a 2nd ruck?
Grigg style.
196. Any more and he becomes a short follower

Berry is getting surprisingly little love on here but, IMO anyway, he has huge potential and fills an even huger need we have.

Would be rapt if we get him after our first few picks.
We have definitely spoke to him recently K3 , that’s via a mate of the family , saints have too

There is another possibility which is north will deal their F1 and keep pick 2.
For instance would GWS swap pick 15 and say their F2 for north’s F1?
They could offer us their F1 for our pick 11 ( which I probably wouldn’t take)

I reckon picking best available will not include a tall forward in our first 4 picks. Tauru sliding the possible exception. The talls should come in our last 4 picks. I'm for holding all 8 picks in a deep draft.
The nuance there is other clubs may have one selection and both rate and need the key forward, so they get taken before our pick.

With so many selections,we should be able to take the risk of one a little earlier.

I always get a bit bemused at this Smillie linked to Richmond at pick 6 rhetoric.
We work on player rankings and have for years. Just because we like Smillie doesn’t mean if someone we rank higher slips to 6 we won’t pick him and I would be staggered if anyone knows what our rankings are.
I would hope someone does Sin...or its going to be very mute on the Tigers draft table come Wednesday.

GWS 15 and F2 for F1 doesn't sound right to me from Norf's perspective.

And that's why I say again they have limited options outside of us - unless they do a complicated 3 or 4 way deal.

I have the pin key password to get into the office. You just need to unlock the cabinet.
Word has it Balmey left three envelopes in the cabinet so that Blair knows what to do with tge draft night.

They are marked "start of first round", "middle of first round", and "what to do when you clear your desk out because you forgot to open the other 2 envelopes".
